Over spray Question
I hope this is in the right forum, I figured more people would see it here...
Getting ready to clean-up my engine bay. At some point someone sprayed the inner fenders with black paint, but did not mask off the body. I tried some polishing compound, and it will take off the black over spray, but we are talking several hours work. Any suggestions ??

A mild solvent could work wonders, but it kinda depends on what the overspray is. You need to find a solvent that will dissolve the overspray paint, without softening the factory paint. Test a hidden area first! Some cheapo rattle can stuff comes off easily enough with "Goof Off", or graffitti remover. Mineral spirits might help too. Neither of those will do anything to harm the factory enamel.
If it's lacquer or epoxy paint, forget it, you'll likely have to keep polishing it off. Of course lacquer thinner would probably loosen the overspray, but you will risk softening the underlying paint as well. Good luck! |

Try Mothers Clay Bar. Used to work for a paint company and this is what I used when the journeyman made a boo boo...

A clay bar will be your friend here. Clay the overspray areas then polish and wax.

I ended up using mild rubbing compound and elbow grease. Results so far...

That will work but remember you are taking some of the paint off that you want to keep when you compound (it's literally like fine sandpaper).
The clay bar, that is like MAGIC! I have taken urethane overspray off a plexiglass camper window without any damage what so ever to the window. That damn clay bar is amazing. Brian
