Spring green paint. rare?

my truck still has the original "spring green" factory paint, and i've only ever seen it on one other 75 and one 74 (now on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...9072&rd=1&rd=1 ). the other 75 was a SWB with a 454 and in that ad it was said that this color was only offered in 75. any insight?

The one on ebay is darker. The color name may be the same, but the color itself looks a lot darker.

It's close enough that it could be that the trucks were out in different amounts of sun, or simply a different run of paint at the factory. It was not uncommon for cars and trucks in the 70's to vary depending on different batches of paint supplied to the factory from the paint companies. Quality control was a bit different back then.

In either case- it's a typical color for the time period, probably fairly popular, but it was once considered ugly at some point (80's), and most were either scrapped when deemed too "out of style" to fix up, or worked hard until they gave up and were not worth fixing (rust, engine failure, etc.) The fact that they would be 'rare' now I would think is more due to the fact that this color fell out of style than anything else. It's probably rare to have one now in that stock color and in good shape, but not back 'in the day'...not sure about it being a one year only color though. I remember we had appliances that color in '75 Sorry, I don't have any production figures on hand for the trucks produced with that color...someone on here may...but from my experience, the survivors with what we would consider 'weird' colors were the first ones scrapped because tastes changed.

Just my guess.

Cool truck, by the way. I like the color. Now.

I would agree. It looks more like a flatter green for lack of a better term.
Yours looks more metallic, what I would consider an apple green. Not that thats an official color though.
I like your truck, not so much on the one you posted the link to.

Trailer Park Boys is probably the funniest show I've ever seen. My favorite. Still have to see the most recent movie.

Anyways how many greens were there in 75? I had a 75 that was originally called "glenwood green". I still have the SPID from that truck for some reason.

My 73 was close to the color of the ebay truck, and it was not metallic. Just an ugly green. It eveh had the same color of interior; kind of a brownish green. On the same note, mine also had a cardboard dash pad, not a padded vinyl one. Anybody else ever see one? I have only heard of one other. It had to be factory, as it fit and even had a recess for the "Custom" emblem.

Edit: looking at the ebay ad again, it looks like it says something like killarney green for the color. It is the last line on the left column.

Re: Spring green paint. rare?

a buddy of mine had a 75 3/4 ton 4 x that color or very close to it.the real difference was the inset white seemed to be more of a bone,or off white.that was back in the day.i like that color though.if not rare it is unique..you don't see many running around like that.

Re: Spring green paint. rare?

Looking at the factory color charts I can't find anything listed as "Spring Green". Is that how the color is listed on the SPID?

I cant find that color on any of the GM charts, but anything is possible. In the mid 70's a dealer could order any GM color on any GM truck as long as they ordered 10 units at one time.

I had a 76 suburban that was all that color green and hated it. The white sides & roof make that color look great though!

Re: Spring green paint. rare?

I would say it is more rare due to the paint being original than the paint. I know where 2 spring green trucks are right now. I wouldn't consider it rare though.

Re: Spring green paint. rare?

i think my 76 k10 stepside was that color orginally. I was tearing apart the dash and noticed the green on part of the frame. it has since then been painted a sh!t brown to it's now current color - rattle can black.
