Plug wires for Hooker headers and HEI
I just installed Hooker Long Tubes on my 69 and the straight plug boots are really close if not touching on a the headers.
I have searched and searched and the only thing I have found is tons of info about Ram Horns and 76+ corvette wires.....not sure if that applies here. What are people with this combo using. I'm thinking I need a 90 degree boot and I would like the wires to be a good fit. I was thinking about ordering these to clean it all up. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/RNM-1101P/

Re: Plug wires for Hooker headers and HEI
I used 90 degree boots on mine and ran the back two wires on each side under the header, and the front two along the intake and around the front of the engine. But mine were cut to length wires so they were plenty long enough.

Re: Plug wires for Hooker headers and HEI
I'll have to double check, but I believe it's '86 heavy GVW 3/4t plug wires you need. They came up over the tubular manifolds

Plug wire routing devices???: http://www.jegs.com/p/Billet-Special...44153/10002/-1 A loom is a device that holds strands apart. Think weaving, that's a loom. You don't want wires running at lengths side by side and you want them up and away from the exhaust manifolds/headers,away from the heat as much as possible. Those billet things get hot and heat the wires, not good. Here are the premium stock (8mm) replacements from NAPA for '76 C20 w/350.: http://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/Ca...244_0065537382

Re: Plug wires for Hooker headers and HEI
You can't use straight boot plug wires with headers. About 99% of the time.

Re: Plug wires for Hooker headers and HEI
I used the '86 3/4 ton wires like Special-K mentioned.
But you have to check before purchacing some sets come with 2 straight boots, the rest are all 90 deg. boots. They are also too short to run like the picture in Hayhaulers post, You have to run them over the valve covers.

Re: Plug wires for Hooker headers and HEI
I personally like to run the wire looms, it looks clean and functions perfectly. Also they are only $29.99 shipped on eBay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/390401858116...84.m1438.l2648

Re: Plug wires for Hooker headers and HEI
Thanks looks better than I thought. I'm running the cheap Hedman headers ,mine look like ;;;;.#6 has to be taken out with a wrench and #1 the plug wire is about 1/8 inch from the header.

Re: Plug wires for Hooker headers and HEI
Agree and I added accel shorty plugs. They are about $30 or so and come in a set of eight. Run about 1/4" shorter than std plugs.

Re: Plug wires for Hooker headers and HEI
Those are one type of wire loom that are shown. There are many types of looms. I don't like that type because it puts the wires real close to the heat. I don't mind seeing plug wires and use ones that hold the wires up and away from the heat. And,as mentioned, the HEI wires I suggested won't work with that set-up anyway.

Re: Plug wires for Hooker headers and HEI
I run MSD cut to length wires and run them under the headers and around the back of the block. It's real clean looking. I have this thing about hiding wires of all kinds.

Re: Plug wires for Hooker headers and HEI
I am having this same problem with my Hooker long tube headers, going to try and run them under the headers and up behind the block for a clean look.

Re: Plug wires for Hooker headers and HEI
I ended up purchasing the loops I posted and Accel 8.5 mm wires from the 1986 3/4 ton truck .
Everything worked good but 2 of the wires are a tad short at the back of the valve covers. I also ended up with a new edelbrock fuel line and filter/feed combo.....That was a fun day

Re: Plug wires for Hooker headers and HEI
They worked there just touching the rear of the valve covers.
There won't be any issues but there not 100% perfect. I might be able to swap them with one of the other wires but it was a big gamble to swap when it was already done and in the looms.
