Rear Disk Brake Kits
Who has the best rear disk brake kits? I am looking for the best overall value. I can see a light at the end of the tunnel because my truck project is going to be mostly downhill now. I am doing an information search for rear disk brakes now. Any input or opinions is more than welcome.

Re: Rear Disk Brake Kits
I keep seeing the Brothers kits, the ECE kits (early classic enterprises) and Classic Performance Parts kits. I hear CPP has a bad reputation though...heard a lot of people here unhappy with them for various reasons.

Re: Rear Disk Brake Kits
The reason I am asking is because Athey's Classic Truck Parts has a rear disk brake kits that has everything you need to convert a truck to rear disk brakes. It comes with the brakets, calipers, rotors, mounting hardware, and even the parking brake kit. So far this is the best deal I have found for $599.95 + shipping.

Re: Rear Disk Brake Kits
It'd be nice if a company offered just the brackets and maybe propo-valve along with a list of parts sources. So we could buy this "install kit" and go to a junk-yard or eBay etc. to get the rotors and calipers. Something like that should be less than $200.

Re: Rear Disk Brake Kits
I havent used the CPP kit but have ordered other products from them and would strongly suggest you go somewhere else. The have awful customer support and are very slow at shipping the product(took 3 weeks to get a gas tank that was in stock)

Re: Rear Disk Brake Kits
I bought a kit from Blackbirds Custom. The kit uses 78 Eldorado rotors and calipers.
If I was to do it all over I think I would look at late model Caprices..94,95 etc. They have a 5 on 5 bolt pattern and I'm pretty sure the brakets etc would fit on a 12 bolt rear.

Re: Rear Disk Brake Kits
I think Mike Hill sells just the brackets for 4 and 2 wd. He is on this forum - not sure if he is a supporting member. Here is some info.

Re: Rear Disk Brake Kits
I used a 6 lug kit from GMCPAULS, it was easy to install overall. Follow directions exactly. I had more problems with m/c and pedal throw than anything. I welded the hose holders to axle(clamps don't look good). I've had in on 1-1/2 years now and no problems. Here's a link to my rear discs: http://home.earthlink.net/~rodnok1/c...reardiscs.html

Re: Rear Disk Brake Kits
I ordered front and rear disc kits from Classic Performance Products with little to no problems. Javier is the best guy to talk to for technical support. The only problem I had with them was there were no mounting bolts for the rear disc brackets when I got my kit. I called to tell them and they would have sent me the bolts, but I already had bought them by then locally.
They recently moved so I hope that their customer service improves. Bill Athey is a great guy to do business with and I have started buying as much from his as I possbily can since he is a board sponsor and vendor. Bill can get you just about anything you need, just call him and let him know.

Re: Rear Disk Brake Kits
my kit is definitly for the do-it-yourselfer.if you can use hand tools, you can build my kit for about 200,calipers,rptors,and brake lines are about 120 bucks, and then you just make the brackets yourself,or have a machine shop make them for yuou using my dimensions, here is a pic of mine

Re: Rear Disk Brake Kits
I was thinking about making a purchase from Classic Performance Products, after speaking with Javier (very helpful) But if there is a problem with getting your shippment and parts missing maybe it's a bad Idea?

Re: Rear Disk Brake Kits
Check the "reviews" forum - search each page for "CPP" or "classic" and you can read the several reviews. If I remember correctly, "missing parts" from orders was one of the largest complaints.
