not your typical disc swap, help please
I have 2 questions,my 69 4x4 is almost done and i need this resolved soon. Is there a way i can convert my [DANA 44 CLOSED KNUCKLE, DRUM BRAKES FRONT DIFF] to disc brackes and keep the closed knuckle diff. I dont care if i need to use used or new or other brand parts to do this. can it be done?
QUESTION 2 DIFFERENT TRUCK, is it possible to convert a 6 lug dana 44, to an 8 lug, by changing the discs , knuckles or something. PLEASE DONT MOVE THIS TO THE 4X4 SECTION, NOT MUCH TRAFFIC THERE. |

I don't have time at the moment to do the research but I have seen an add for the disc conversion on a closed knuckle.

Yes "you" can,but don`t expect a bolt-on.Many vehicles have had custom one-off brake systems fabricated. It`s not always an easy road, usually. But,if there`s a will there`s a way. You`ll probably need to weight your reasons against the effort.I can say there are easier ways to get discs up front.
What are your reasons? If you don`t mind me asking.

Re: not your typical disc swap, help please
Shawn, did you change your username?
I have an 8 lug D44 with disk brakes already... why stay closed knuckle? You can change a closed knuckle D44 over to disk brakes by using a bunch of weird parts. A note: All D44 parts will interchange, provided you match them knuckles out (spindle bolt hole counts vary) or match spindles to knuckles at least. There are some very rare closed knuckle D44's with disk brakes. There are some spindles that match the bearing ID of the disk brake hub that match your spindle bolt pattern. Typically, (might have it reversed) Chevy/Dodge used 6 spindle bolts on their knuckles and Ford used Five. Jeep and International mixed it up a bit, but generally followed Chevy.
