Gas Tank cleanup and Restoration

So in the process of cleaning up the original gas tank, I have cleaned out the old gas, pulled the float and pickup tube, I'm almost ready to coat the inside of the tank and start putting it all back together. My question is for those who have done this before. Have you put a pickup tube sock type device on it. I haven't found a diagram that shows one was there originally but have seen some replacement parts showing it. Anyone seen one installed or installed one while rehabbing a gas tank?

I have seen plenty or what was left. I usually do not use them and just use a good inline filter

The sock is friction fitted. Mine was toast too. Word is replace the fuel sender float with a Jeep OMX-1772901 (a.k.a. 17729.01), because they last longer.

Jeep float is what I used, perfect fit. Ordered from Advance Auto

I used redkote and was happy with it. Mine took a little more than a quart to cover good. You will want to get two quarts for adequate coverage. Oreillys surprisingly stocked this.
