Question Possible Oil Leak Sources
64 C10 original 283 V8
Assuming the rear main and the cam welch plug are not leaking. Factually, their ain't a drop of oil on the flywheel inbetween the motor or out on the clutch surface. Distributer boss and oil sending unit and valve covers not leaking either. I have a drip of oil that runs down the drivers side. It wets the bottom of the oil pan between the drain and the rear. It mostly drips off the wing of the oil cannister boss and seems to migrate over to the oil pan. Thought it was the cannister leaking but there is fresh oil on the drivers side spark wires where it go's thru the loom above and to the left of the oil cannister boss. C Any welch plugs on the high left side? This one has the cannister oil filter, possible leak at some type of gally pipe plug near there? |

Re: Question Possible Oil Leak Sources
Does your motor have a road draft tube or a pcv in the valve cover?

Re: Question Possible Oil Leak Sources
PCV mounted from rear of intake manifold to full manifold vacuum at carb base. No leaks there that I can tell. Mostly somewhere from drivers side below the exhaust manifold and/or just above the oil cannister but below the head/deck junction.

Re: Question Possible Oil Leak Sources
Intake could make sense. There is a tiny weep up front just below the thermostat houseing close to the passenger head.

Re: Question Possible Oil Leak Sources
I had a coolant leak one time that originated by the water pump, ran down along the top of the oil pan rail and appeared on the tranny. Could well be your intake at the front leaking.

Re: Question Possible Oil Leak Sources
I agree with 1966shortwide I would suspect the rear of the intake. Specifically the corner. Went through this year's ago with a 231 Buick v6 and a Edelbrock manifold. Finally got it fixed. Thick bead of rtv black. I then let it cute over night. I do all my manifolds this way. Good luck.

Re: Question Possible Oil Leak Sources
Well, got an appointment on 18 Dec with my son to rip out the front suspension. Might make a second appointment to yank the motor and regasket the top and bottom and back all at once. I'd rather hold out and drop in a rebuilt 327 and use the effort to clean the firewall and frame though.
