project "call of duty" 72 c10

so its been a real real long time since my last build of anything. I have a long history of building hydraulic hoppers and dancers. I have won world championships, held world records in single pump truck hop and won championships in radical dancers. Any way thats been real long gone now.

Ever since i can remember i have always had a lowrider truck. My truck of choice was a mazda. Cant find them anywhere here, long gone too.

So i bought this truck off ebay. It's a 1972 c10 long bed with factory air. My plans are to lay frame using hydraulics probably because its way more reliable and i can get much higher ride height with it.

I came up with the name CALL OF DUTY for 2 reasons .....

1 i love modern warfare 3, black ops 2 sucks
2 i feel like lowriding is slowly dying. Its our duty as lowriders to keep the spirit alive.

my 10 year old son is going to help me. I want him to be mechanicly inclined when he grows up. kids today just dont have the drive like we did growing up. texting and xbox is all they care about.

so this is my build enjoy it, comment on it, learn from it.

no disrespect to porterbuilt but i will not wait 5 weeks to get stuff nor will i pay 5000 for things that i can easily fabricate. they do outstanding work but thats money i can use elsewhere.
i have decided to z the frame. its real easy to do and i can reinforce it to make it super strong. As far as the rear i will probably go 4 link.

See now i like BO 2 better than MW3. Just a better playing game IMHO anyway.

Wasn't feeling very good today. Flu like symptoms. Aaaaaahhhhhh. Ordered a bunch of suspension stuff today. My steel guy had to order me a sheet of 3/16 to reinforce and c notch the frame. Maybe tomorrow things will be better.

I would think that air suspension is much more reliable than hydros. I've had quite a few friends who's had hydros and always trouble. Maybe they've improved since then. Not sure. I remember hoses always busting, solenoids always going out, batteries leaking, breaking cylinders, having to charge your batteries..just seemed like a hassle.

Not bashing on hydros, because they're pretty damn cool when working right and they've probably improved since then. Again, I'm talking like 15 years ago,

I agree about problems with hydros. I used to have my own shop back in the day and have installed hundreds of kits, but if done right using quality parts it's pretty much flawless. Air is great too but bust a bag on the freeway and your screwed for frame laying vehicles.

I have some real trick ideas for suspension set up. So just a bit more time.

Cool, bro. I miss seeing them in action. My best friend actually had a '92 Mazda truck with a Reds set up and another buddy with a s10 with Pro-Hoppers. Good times. Looking foward to your progress.

Was feeling good today and my son and I got a lot done. The frame was caked in oil and must have road through a mud pit. He scraped so much crud off the frame.
My goal is to get all frame welding done then drop off to be sand blasted and powder coated. Then reassemble to get painted. Picking up my sheet of steel tomm so I can finish my z work.

Awesome IF you use accumulators. They are a nitrogen filled bladder that acts as a cushion. When you hit a bump the jolt goes from the cyl pushes fluid into the bladder to dampen the jolt.

ever been in a plane? “every” plane uses them for landing gear. That’s where accumulators originally came from. Several models of Mercedes Benz use hydraulics to lower the vehicle while speed increases for aerodynamics.
They can ride really nicely if designed to do so.

did you hear Orlie passed away couple of weeks ago? Very sad news.. one of the hydraulic legends..
hydraulics more reliable and higher ride height with it…same height with airride, and you should get easy over 10-15 years out of an airbag. You will never get that out of a cylinder or pump.
if you are set on hydraulics, I won’t say anything to stop you. Yes they can be built to be awesome, reliable, charged as you drive, and fun. But if you want to learn more about airride can definitely answer your questions.
And fyi low riders aren’t dyin out, you’re in NY, it’s a different scene out there, get on a plane with your little man and come out to the west coast, it’s still poppin out here like nobody’s business.
