We do have lift laws, we are allowed up to 30" from the frame to the ground.

It is required due to having to rotate your pitman arm 90 degrees.

You can fight the lift law. Just point out all those poser lifted trucks(F250/F350) with 40's on them. Most cops arent going to bother you anyway. UNLESS youre being stupid.

BTW your truck looks AWESOME!!!!!!!!!

Looks awesome! The 2wd box is needed when using x-over steering. The stock 4wd box swings front to back, where as the 2wd box swings side to side.

Since the point of x-over steering is to have the drag link connect to the pass side knuckle, the only way to do it is with a 2wd box swinging side to side.

Re: Lifting my 72' K20

Update...

My Dad and I finished putting the top of the motor back together this morning (had blown head gaskets). I also bought new
grade 8 bolts for the leaf springs. So this is where I am tonight...
I got the front suspension all ripped apart...

This last is just to show how high the truck is! Holy crap it is tall, I didn't even realize it until I saw the picture. I'm 5'8".
Just in case you are wondering, the cross member is 27" from the ground. Still legal!

Re: Lifting my 72' K20

Josh (brother-in-law) and I finally finished the front today. Man does it look great. It sits at 27 3/4" from the ground to the cross member.

I still have the steering to do, including the steering stablizers, and torque everything.

Re: Lifting my 72' K20

sweet jesus that looks good!!!

i found the whiplash website...did you use the 73-80's 12" kit or have some custom springs made? did you have to do any modifications to the frame, or anything else, to get these to fit?

I did use the springs from the 73-87's 12" kit, but they were custom springs. Whiplash normally runs an 8" spring and 4" block in the rear. Robert at Whiplash hooked me up with some custom 12" rears that were 4-5" shorter. 73-87' springs are 49" long where 67-72' are 42"long. The shackle took care of the extra few inches. As far as modifications the only thing I did was trimmed the bushing sleeve. It kept binding on the spring hanger. I can't remember off hand, what the spring width is on the 73-80's, but the front bushing was a little on the wide side as well, but I got it to fit.

I am going to be building a Chevy 3/4 Dana 60 with a Detroit Locker and 5.13 gears. Same goes for the front except I haven't decided whether I want to keep my Dana 44 or go to a Dana 60.

Re: Lifting my 72' K20

Do you have 4:56s in it now? with that eaton rear you have i would think you have 4:56 gears in it. you may find out if you do a lot of on road driving you dont like the 5.13 there great for trails but to steep for the road. I have 38s and 4:56s and doing 65 is pushing it hard. I can only do 70 down hill with a strong wind. what trans are you using ? I have a sm465 so no over drive for me.

You know I haven't checked to see what gear ratio is in my eaton. I'll have to go look today. I am planning to run the eaton for a few months until I can finish building my Dana 60. I have a turbo 350 trans with a high performance 337 small block chevy.

You are right, I'm planning to get longer ones. Procomp sent me those telling me that they are for a 12" lift. BS those are the same length that they send with their 6" lift kits. Thanks for the advise. Its on the to do list.
