power steering pump question
I bought a new chrome ps pump off ebay. And my old grimy one worked better.
Are there different kinds of pumps. Like different power ratios etc.? The steering drags when i just start it up. Once I get rolling it smooths out. Thanks in advance. |

Re: power steering pump question
Loose belt or air in system are 2 possibilities.

Re: power steering pump question
Not an expert here by any means but from what I have seen lately for either a rack and pinion upgrade or PS is that there are different pressure and flow requirements for different vehicles

Re: power steering pump question
Jack the front of the rig up and with the truck running turn the steering wheel lock to lock about 4 dozen times. It will help to bleed the air from the system.

Re: power steering pump question
Did you get the correct pump for the app? If I remember right some pumps have different pressure outputs and can be adjusted. I don't remember how they are adjusted.
Could also be a bad pump never know what you get off ebay.

Re: power steering pump question
To be honest I didn't know there were different pressures for different applications.
I will call to check on that. I did rotate the wheels back and fourth alot. It is only when its cold and im pulling out of the garage. Thanks for the input |

Re: power steering pump question
I used this kit to reduce the pressure going into the pump because my steering was too easy, however you can also increase the pressure with kit. Easy install also

Re: power steering pump question
Learned something new today. Power steering pumps vary in pressures.
I will probably just go buy a pump with the right pressure. That way if the one I have is bunk. Im done. |
