Putting a 67 body on top a 76 frame.
I am really intersted in putting my 1967 body (2wd) on a 1976 frame (4wd).
Educate me as to how I actually have the body mount. WHich mounts do I use? What kind of fabrication can I expect to be doing? PLEASE help me out or point me in the direction of a great website ro something. Thanks.

Subject: 4X4 Swap First thing to do is a lot of measureing wheel bases. This is what I did. I used a 67 shortbed 2wheeler and a 77 shortbed 4wheeler. The wheel base for the 67 was shorter so I shortened the frame of the 77 1 1/2 inches. Thats to keep the wheel/tires in the center of the wheel openings. I took it out of the middle of the frame. I used the 67 cab mounts and mounted them on the outside of the 77 chassis. (77 mounts are mounted on the inside on the back of the cab). The mounts will go in about the same location as the 77 mounts were. A good way to mount the cab is to bolt your cab mounts loosely to the cab, lowering the cab onto the frame to where you want it, then marking the location of the cab mounts. Doing it this way you can tell how much clearence you have between the cab and frame/transfercase/ tranny and distributor. It is very important to make sure you have room to take the distributor out when you mount the cab. I used a low hump cab so I had to use a body lift to get enough height to keep the body lines of the front clip/cab and bed lined up. I drilled new holes in the frame for the bed next after the cab was mounted. Using some body lift will give you a lot of room to work with making the proper adjustments. I basically used a 3" body lift but in on some mounts it was more and the the bed was less in places. You will be able to see the differences in the attached photos. This swap is not really that hard if you can weld and cut steel. Ok the transfer shifter had to be lengthened about 3". I added a small u-joint to the steering column. If you have to shorten, lengthen frame you may have to adjust brake lines and drive shaft. I was lucky that I didnt have to mess with the drive shaft. Brakes. The 67 had drum brakes with a booster. All I did was hook the lines from the 77 on the 67 booster and I have had no problems. I recently changed over to 3/4 ton with disks and I am still using the old 67 master and booster. The brakes work great. So dont mess with the brake lines on the newer frame. youre gonna need them. Used still plating for bumper brackets. The front was a little funky but we made it work. Everything else will basically work. Its a good time to get the tank out of the cab too. I used a pre fuel injection tank from a blazer. Got the tank skid plate and everything for like 60 bucks. Works very well. Use caution when removing all the older trucks wiring. You're gonna be using it again. The wiring for the front clip will just unplug at the firewall, but the wires going to the back have to be taken off of the frame. I will send you my phone number with these pics just in case you decide to do this swap. I work nights. Thats all I can think of right now. You will be able to see by the front clip mounts how we did it. really sinple and easy.Hope this all helps. I tried to cover everything. |

Yeah.... that all looks good except having to shorten the wheelbase. That alone is makin' me wanna stay 2wd and just drop in a V8. I'd buy a 4wd 67-72 but not only are they rare over here, I've already put to much into the Hurricane to just sale it off.

mudder how bout making it 101 I have 1969 one ton and want to install the cab and flatbed on A 1977 one ton, big block auto. trans have read most of what you have written, do you still have pictures of your mounts?
