Main front X-Member?
Has anyone taken down the main front xmember (2wd) while leaving the engine in place? I'm thinking on taking mine out for cleaning, etc., but want to leave the engine in. Will just the 2 bolts on each side of the frame holding the engine mounts, be strong enough to hold the sbc? Will the steel mounts bend from the weight?

I don't think I would do that without blocking the engine up. I think you would be asking for trouble.... Just my 2¢ worth. LockDoc

Re: Main front X-Member?
If you have an engine hoist I would support it from above. If that's not an option, in the past I've used ratchet straps under the motor wrapped around each frame rail to support the motor while swapping the cutch. Worked really well and kept me from having to support the motor under the oil pan like the service manual suggested. Just a thought....
