Crate Engines
I am finishing up a restoration on a 1971 Blazer and will be needing a new small block engine.
I think I want to go with a crate 350 or 383 with lots of low end torque. Any recommendations on crate motor companies? Thanks. |

Re: Crate Engines
Pace Performance always seems to have a good deal on GM crate motors.

Re: Crate Engines
I just finished installing the GM performance parts 260 hp motor in my Blazer and just broke in the cam. I tell you what, that is one smooth running motor right out of the box. Now, it won't win that many races, but it wil be reliable. Good luck in picking your power plant. Later, Mario

Re: Crate Engines
I bought a GMPP 350 c.i. with 330 h.p. in 2000. It was put in my longbed '71 2 wheel drive and ran great. Now I have it in my '71 SWB 4X4 and after 8 years, it still runs strong. Check out the youtube link in my signature to hear it run. It's not to bad on gas. It's all in what performance you want.

Re: Crate Engines
You can`t beat GMPP crate motors.Just shop the best price.Your local GM parts counter may be willing to deal if you come in with a bonified price. You will prolly need to talk to the manager.Just tell them you are buying the motor, the question is where.

IMO unless you've got an "in" at the local machine shop, buying a crate is the way to go. |

Re: Crate Engines
I think Edelbrock is in Cali as is Year one, and they both sell 350's and 383's that are reasonable and come with waranty. If you pick it up you save shipping too!

Re: Crate Engines
I have been thinking of getting a Smedding 383 and using an Edelbrok Pro-Flow EFI setup.
