LMC Exhaust for Inline Six

Im replacing the old rusted out exhaust system from my 67 Chevy C10. It has the 250 inline six. I was looking to purchase this system. Anybody have experience with this setup, they claim direct bolt on. Any issues with install ie. any modifications? How is the quality and sound of the system. Im looking at a medium rumble not too loud. Thanks in advance for any advice.

I have a short wheelbase, and it was definitely not a direct bolt in. I knew it would need trimming, but it was a pain in the ass. Still not in right. Just got tired of messing with it, and it didn't come with any diagram help, which you wouldn't think would be helpful, but nothing fit right.

I bought the LMC kit for my 250-equipped C10 several years ago.

While the quality seemed fine, there were no instructions or diagram as to how the pipe was supposed to route. The truck had no exhaust on it when I got it, so I had nothing to go by but guesswork. The main pipe could have gone in either way, but neither really "looked" right. I even called LMC, but they were of no help whatsoever.

I finally flipped a coin and put it together, but I am still not sure if it was correct.

From one Sancho to another , in my 67 I just had the existing manifold split by a old welder, slapped on some used glasspacks, and I was set for the Blvd. But if your going "show" replace it all, with new sh#t. Good luck.

I bought their kit back in 2007 and a local shop charged $100 to install & weld it up. Was still less money than having the shop fab one up, so it depends on what the shops near you charge. Other than swapping the glass packs out (too loud for my tastes), the pipes are still nice and shiny and no other problems.

Yeah sounds like I'll be doing a little more shopping around the local shops to see if I can find a reasonable price. I had one shop quote me $350, the set up was going to be 2 1/4 " with a medium rumble muffler. I thought that was kind of high. Thanks for the replies awesome site.

So, is LMC the only option (other than a shop) for the pipe from the manifold back to the muffler? Has anyone found any other aftermarket options for that pipe?

I need to redo my whole exhaust from manifold back and am just looking for a boring, quiet, plain Jane setup. I can get the tailpipe and muffler from any parts store but no one seems to sell the front pipe.

UGH! This was my Plan too. Not good to hear. Anyone know if there is a good repo out there for us inline short guys?

I think walker has the Tailpipe and muffler but doesnt make a pipe from engine to muffler.....

My experiance with it.

Bought a kit from LMC couple of years ago and as mentioned above, it was pain to put in. Definitely not a direct bolt in. I had to twist and tie it with wire to keep from hitting the frame and still had trouble with it not aligning properly. I made it work after about 5-6 hrs of messing with it.

Won't do it again. I'll bite the bullet and go to a local shop next time.

Local shop will probably be as cheap as the kit and they'll usually tailor it to the style you want.I consider exhuast like glass,"Can I do it?Yeah,but do I want to pay for it twice?"

we ordered their glasspack muffler kit for a small block chevy and it fit like garbage also. Luckily I can weld because otherwise it was going in the trash. We fought with it for 2 days and I'm still not thrilled with it but it'll do until I can pay to have it redone correctly.
Bottom line, I recommend looking elsewhere for a prefab kit.

Like stated above...just find a good local shop. I even have a shop that will clamp on a muffler and let me drive it around the block to see if I like the sound until I get what I'm looking for. You can't beat that!

I bought the kit for a V8 short wheel base, no glass packs, used mufflers, only had one pipe that didnt want to play, took it to a shop and got it bent a little more and had no problems. Good kit, had everything I needed.

You have to shop around, there are alot of shops that wont come close to the kit price, but if you can find one close id let them do it..... In AZ where I lived, it wasnt even close to the kit price....

I purchased a stock exhaust kit from LMC about 5 yrs. ago.It was for a 70 w/250 w/3 spd.It fit great,sounds good and still looks good today.

Since I was one of the guys asking questions in this thread, I figured I should report back on what I ended up doing. I bought the "turbo" LMC kit for my LWB 1970 C10 with a 230 and put it in over the holidays, and I'm really happy with the kit and how it turned out.

The turbo muffler is nice and quiet, and I didn't have too much trouble getting everything to fit. The instructions said not to tighten anything until it was all in place, but I was having trouble getting everything lined up that way. I was stuck for a while before I realized the trick was to get the front pipe from the manifold in the correct position and tighten it to the manifold and then work everything back from that reference point. Once I did that everything fell quickly into place.

Anyway, it's a quality kit and comes with everything you need at a good price. I talked to a local shop, and they wanted as much as the whole kit cost just to bend up a front pipe.

Of course, now that I've fixed all the exhaust leaks in the truck I can hear all the other things wrong, but at least I don't get headaches anymore from all the fumes!
