Aluminum wheels cleaning

I recently bought a set of Helo 8 lug rims, but their all oxadized/coroded. Does anyone sell a product to clean the cossosion off of the aluminum wheels. My only other option is to blast the rim with glass bead. Let me know wut worked for you

Re: Aluminum wheels cleaning

Get a Mother's polishing/cleaning kit from your local auto parts store, that has the drill-driven polishing head. They work great,if you follow the directions.

Re: Aluminum wheels cleaning

The wheels on my truck were pretty corroded when I bought it. I used the Mother's kit with the cone-shaped polishing head. First I power washed them to get as much crap off as I could. Then I wet-sanded the wheel with 400 grit sandpaper. I followed that with the Mother's polish and the polish head.

I actually did this a couple times. It's a lot of work and I would use an electric drill over a rechargable, but they looked pretty good when I got done.

Re: Aluminum wheels cleaning

It might help if you post a pic of the wheel. Aluminum wheels can be very different. They can have have protective coatings such as anodizing and clear urethanes that would prevent you from just polishing. If indeed it is a bare aluminum wheel you can polish it. The type of finish such as brushed, satin, or highly polished and the condition of the material itself, all require different methods of cleaning and polishing. The Mother's ball is a great tool but if the aluminum is in bad shape there are other steps to take first. Post a pic or two if you can.

Re: Aluminum wheels cleaning

Nevr dull and mothers polish are my two favorite high luster polishes. Use 800 grot then 1000 then 2000wet/dry papers and then powerball it. This is simply the easiest and best way to do it
