Making polished wheels look machined?

I have polished wheels and as always they are work to keep them looking their best. I used the search window and didn't find what I was looking for.

Has anyone used a scotch bright pad or some fine sand paper and sanded or scuffed the wheel to make it look machined? If so, how did it work out, how does it hold up over time? And of course any pics would be awesome!

I have been kicking around this idea for a while, but just haven't pulled the trigger on it yet.

It can be done, most of what I have seen is tape off what you want to stay shiney and use a sand blaster to rough up the sections that you don't and make them look like a cast wheel.

Re: Making polished wheels look machined?

I have seen the scotch brite done to a polished wheel, it just looked dull, not really like a machined wheel. To get the machined look, I would think you would need to do it with 120-180 grit paper. Getting all the sanding scratches to stay true to the wheel would be hard imo if it is not done on a lathe or something to spin the wheel at a constant speed...
