the ultimate dumba#@ move by me
i have 230 acres of land. on it is a set of triple tank that haven't had water in them in 15 years. i had the road rebuilt and had a catch built for them, but didn't think they would ever hold and surely not over a single rain. my son and i always climb the dam and ride in the bottom and play. luckily this time i was by myself. i went up a steep part so i got a good run at it, flew over the top into 6 feet of water. i wish i had a picture of my face when this went on. the water was freezing too. insurance company wasn't very proud of me. pics are worth a thousand words.
p.s. you can't see tank from road, have to drive around to back side to see water, hence me not knowing it had water.

Re: the ultimate dumba#@ move by me
Good stuff happens...and unfortunately that wasn't it.
But seriously, we've all done some dumb stuff...maybe not as bad as that, but still pretty darn dumb. You're definitely not alone on this one.

Re: the ultimate dumba#@ move by me
luckily, the insurance company totalled it. i'm seriously gonna miss it, but i think it would be a wiring nightmare from now on. it's going to the salvage pool, and will be sold as a builder. i didn't think they would sell it to be put back on the road, but they are. hope someone knows what they are getting into, but i'm pretty sure by the looks of it they will.

Re: the ultimate dumba#@ move by me
did you use your OnStar? I bet that would have made for a great commercial.
Operator: OnStar, how may I help you 72highlander: Where are the life jackets in this truck? Operator: Excuse me?? 72highlander: Where are the life jackets?! my truck fell in a pond and I don't think it can swim. Operator: Sir, help is on the way....

Re: the ultimate dumba#@ move by me
never thought of that, would've been quite humorous though.

Re: the ultimate dumba#@ move by me
I would have tried to buy it back from the ins. co. Most people I know would have aired it out, changed the fluids a few times and put it back on the road- no joke!
That water looks pretty clean- crop field silted pond water is a little tougher on things. My ex brother-in-law has experience with that scraping the snow off the pond one year with a 7500lb. tractor so the kids could go ice skating. The tractor & him went ice fishing instead

That sucks man. But atleast U have one hell of a story that can top many others. Anytime water goes over the rocker its totalled. Well should be.

Re: the ultimate dumba#@ move by me
I had a friend who did the same thing during his divorce. He bought the truck back for less than 1 grand. The seals in the tranny gum up and the tranny needs to be completely rebuilt. I hope just like you do that whoever buys it knows what they are doing.

Re: the ultimate dumba#@ move by me
adjuster was looking at it and couldn't see water line, he opened up glove box and water came out and he said "yep, it's done" i asked about buying it back, but they said it would probably bring 13-15k at auction. there's no way i'd have given that.

Re: the ultimate dumba#@ move by me
Agree with ya there- that would be a lot of money for something that could end up a nice looking beater!

Re: the ultimate dumba#@ move by me
i had a buddy with me, he didn't think i could make it up so he got out. he said i jumped about 3 feet at the top and then there i was. it was a hell of a ride. wish i had it on video. my '72 is slated to be my son's (he is 3). when i told him i was going to drive "his" truck he told me i couldn't because i would get it muddy. lol
