Wiper cowl question
What exactly is the purpose of a wiper cowl? I've got a 1980 with the wiper cowl built into the hood and I don't quite understand the purpose of it. I understand the purpose of the one under the hood, but do I really need it on the hood or can I shave it smooth?

Re: Wiper cowl question
You can see it on the hood just beneath the wipers. It's actually on the hood itself and not a separate piece like I've seen on other trucks.

Re: Wiper cowl question
73-80 have it built in to the hood, 81-87 have it as a separate piece. Ventilation is the main reason I believe.

Re: Wiper cowl question
I always thought it was a leaf/junk guard, but it almost seems like it serves the same purpose as the cowl screen under the hood.
I think that would be too far back to deal with ventilation for the carb, since it's sitting just above the cowl screen that's under the hood....no? I'm asking because I don't know, so I could be totally wrong. |
