Project 30 years sitting
So I had been on the hunt for a jimmy/blazer or burb. Found a 72 Jimmy 4x4 2 blocks from me that has been setting for approx 30 years.
Story is it was purchased in Tenn. Original owner had it roughly 10 years. Sold to guy in my state to make a deer camp rig out of it. Before it was registered, buyer 3 made offer and got it. Buyer 3 tried register it, they wouldnt allow him for some reason. But he just planed on it being deer camp as well, he didnt bother. He lifted it, cut fender wells, changed motors, exploded transfer case, replace with newer trans case. Motor started getting rust chunks in the fuel, so parked it. While hunting for new tank, parts were stolen off it. So he just pulled it into the weeds and let it sit. I am buyer 4. I have protecto plate, and a lot of butched crap since it was deer woods rig. I also had to remove the full brake system just to get it rolled out of its hole and onto a trailer. I intend of making this a nice driver. I need something to put lightweight bulky items into the back off, and still beable to keep things locked.

Re: Project 30 years sitting
Junkyard trip today. Got a set of fenderwells, one of my red side lights, correct brake peddle.
I have the remains of the custom front bumper removed, old fenderwells removed, rubber floor mat mostly removed showing I do have some floor work to do. Sorted thru all the parts left in it and vac'd up. Wiper cowl off so I can clean that area out. Creep oil in all cyls. Right window now goes up/down, but still not open/closing properly. Attempted removal of back bumper, but I need to find a torch for that. Also been hunting some of the info I need to repair it. |

Re: Project 30 years sitting
In its previous life, the ebrake system has been fully removed. I rebuilt what I had to just get it moving around. Also picked up a 31gal gas tank (edit, found out its 40gal and I cant use, see forsale section). Should get my first summit order in tomm.

Re: Project 30 years sitting
So old tank is out, rear bumper torched off, drivers seat removed for rust inspection, hood removed for easier repair of motor, front frame horns worked on but will make a question post on it. Another pressure wash blast to remove mud.
This week I had new door hinges come in from a board member. Should have a fender come in from another board member Monday. Motor is still seized up and still working on it. Todays junkyard score... power steering box, rally wheel with 31" tire, 2 center caps, and final rear brake parts needed. |

Re: Project 30 years sitting
Got the rear brake hose on, treated the cab floor and got it coated. Took rest of rear bumper brackets off. Went to put power steering box on, and that didnt work out. So started on getting the rear cross member out. Got pissed off and called it a day.

Re: Project 30 years sitting
Got a front swaybar, all corner lights. Working on getting front frame horns sent to me.
Rear cross brace is out in preps for the larger tank. New calipers installed, with new hoses. Plus new hose on rear as well. Been working on figuring out an ebrake cable setup for lifted rides and think I have one figured out. Motor still locked up Last edited by Dale99; 10-17-2012 at 10:29 PM. |

Re: Project 30 years sitting
Battery installed today and turned the motor over. So installed new points, condenser, cap, rotor, fixed the power wire going to the coil. Check to see why the brake peddle wouldnt move which is either the booster or master. Also helped a friend do some work for his business.

Re: Project 30 years sitting
Oil changed, plugs in, wires on. Need to install a belt, then gas to try and fire it, hopefully sunday. The whole hydraulic part of the brake system working. Still working on the ebrake setup. Power steering hosed up, and has fluid.
Got my lmc order in, new drivers floor pan, one of the ps hoses I needed, and all the gear for a gas tank since I got the wrong one before. |

Re: Project 30 years sitting
been a few weeks since update.
Power steering all hooked up with proper brackets. correct belts on everything. motor did not start as it was dumping fuel from the bowls. Rebuilt carb(first ever attempt at this), tried again and no start. Rechecking my work to see if I did something wrong. Punctured hole in the radiator sometime while working on power steering, so thats gonna have to be fixed. ebrake system fully put together and working. Going to make a few changes later, but its good for now. got a few small odds/ins to fix piddly things. Parklights, door handles, charcoal canister. Soon this will have to come out the garage and sit a few weeks. The trans in my camaro is shot. |

Re: Project 30 years sitting
Tried starting again today. Timing was way off, dunno how it ran at this setting before.
Went to adjust it, wouldnt spin. Tried removing it, and snapped it off in the block. So motor will be coming out. So much for getting it driveable by christmas. |

Re: Project 30 years sitting
Whole front clip is off, everything is unbolted from the motor and it should just be laying in the truck ready to yank. Need to find my motor pulling chain in this mess.....
