Re: Custom camper
What is it that attracts your buddy to this particular truck? It's been said that the Custom Camper was sort of the pickup equivalent to the Super Sport in cars of the era, but just how much of the original truck remains? Performance options and condition will be what determines value.
The CC badge just means that when the truck left the factory, it included a certain group of deluxe features that came as a package (see pic below). There was no other option that grouped goodies this way. As nice as it was, this did not include engine type/size, trans, power steering or brakes, A/C, big window, etc. As far as the effect on value goes, the CC option is surely a bonus, but it's only part of the picture. Re: Custom camper
I agree totally. This option may signal the potential of a well optioned truck, but by no means guarantees it. Condition and SPID options play a big role after the discovery. For some, factory colors make a difference, white on white ( as this one appears to be ) is not the most desirable, IMO, of all the '66 colors that were available.

Re: Custom camper
This guy really has no business trying to fix/repair/restore..etc etc..any kind of truck..but hes got his head set on one..we are trying to talk him out of it and just get one already running..he would be money and time ahead to do so...he couldnt tell me anything about it other than what I listed above...I think this may be a parts truck at best..seller wants 2k...I think that's high..but I didnt know if there are desirable parts on it being a CC..

Re: Custom camper
The engine doesn't look original. Numerous things under the hood don't look original. Definitely aftermarket A/C. No PB, no PS. Whole thing looks poorly cared-for. But it does look like the mice love it.

Re: Custom camper
I don't know,I'd like to have it. Bed looks straight and solid at least on one side, auto transmission column, stainless grill, bumper looks bad but stainless trim on side, stainless windshield trim.
Door and pass fender doesn't look terrible, hood? If this was in Michigan I'd be lookin' to see how the other side and the tailgate etc, look if nothing else than for parts. |

Re: Custom camper
Aluminum grill, sorry. This would possibly be considered a fairly nice truck for my part of Michigan.

Re: Custom camper
Agree, non-original engine for sure. My biggest concern would be the rust in the hood hinge area (and nearby firewall/cowl, and more obviously, rockers, cab corners etc).

Re: Custom camper
I agree that 2K is high. But I do see a lot of good in this truck. It has a chrome front bumper with the bumper guards, an aluminum grill, side body trim, windshield trim, and an auto trans which would be a TH400. It does need a good cleaning and a bit of work.

Re: Custom camper
Well, away out a-here in Soviet California, 2k is a touch high, however not too very bad IF rust isn't bad. Thank Heaven this truck is way over in 'Bama as I would be in biiiiig trouble 'cause I'd be a baaaaad boy, Abbot! Baaaad, bad boy! I don't need to be evicted again for bringing more junkers home.

Re: Custom camper
If it was a factory th400 truck and has the column and other parts that would have the most value. Like others have stated the custom camper option was just a package and unless it has a spid on the glove box to show it was a custom camper truck it's just a truck
