Best parts deal you got for your 67-72!!!!!

What is the best deal you got (partswise, or the whole thing) for your 67-72? I thought this might be fun. I will start.

1)I paid $40.00 for the blazer seats.

2)$20.00 for the 72 only tow hooks.

Re: Best parts deal you got for your 67-72!!!!!

Some others have heard this story before, but here goes.

I paid $50 for a cab out of salvage yard. Once I got it back to the shop and started stripping it, I found $60-$70 (can't remember exact amount) worth of silver dollars and half dollars in the passenger side cab corner.

I paid $750 for a 1969 4x4 and found a plunger in the back. That was 10 years ago, and that plunger is in the bathroom next to me!! It's survived 6 moves! Ok, so maybe it's not quite as good as Shane's.

You've probably gotten more use out of the plunger than I did the coins ... my little one found them and confiscated them during our last move.

Now dear ol' Dad is back where he started. BROKE!

Re: Best parts deal you got for your 67-72!!!!!

Last year I paid $600 for a daily driver, it is a '71 Chevy C-10. It needs paint, but seems to be mechanically sound.

My son gave me a set of near new tires for it.

I bought the mirrors at a garage sale for $3.00, they are stainless.

Re: Best parts deal you got for your 67-72!!!!!

I gave $175 for a '71 Eldorado & put the engine in my '72 back in '95. The guy I bought it from had just done a timing chain & valve seals. It's still going strong. I used the rear straight axle under a logsplitter, & sold the rest for scrap.

As I see it, total cost: nothing

I also bought a 14 bolt posi & SRW Dana 60 front for it at a U-Pull-It yard for $150

But I ended up hungry and sold them

For $1850 on ebay

Re: Best parts deal you got for your 67-72!!!!!

My DD at auction for $270 ten years ago...included the origional LJ 327 block (stolen since), PS,PB, CC package and a 12 bolt 373 Posi. Borrowed a 4 bolt 350 for 10 years to power it with. Trany from my racecar (free), driveshaft built from salvaged parts (except the UJ's & bearing, of course), swapped sign work for a custom radiator. Has only become a money pit in the last year...

Re: Best parts deal you got for your 67-72!!!!!

Ok this one will be a little long but, I will try to shorten it up if I can.

It's about the 72' LWB 4x4 in my sig.

I let my girlfreinds cousin barrow 500 dollars for two YZ490's they both ran and the deal was if he could not get me the money back I would just sell the bikes for the money well worthit to me.

Anyway about three weeks after I lent him the money he asked if he could trade the bikes for a 72' 4x4 chevy with a ton of parts and a couple engines.
I said only if I go look at them also (to make sure it was a good deal since he did owe me the money). So away we went.

Here's what he traded even up for the two bikes $500 total investment.:
Truck ofcoarse complete driveline included Tranny, transfercase ect.
402 BBC apart but most good needs a crank
383 short block all new scat crank forged rods forged pistons never finished brand new
350 4bolt stock std. bore
two other sets of bbc heads
4 new 31x10.50 tires on white spoke wheels
4 ralley wheels in great condition
4 new shocks
New brakes all the way around calipers rotors wheel studs, the works
New 4 core rad.
New floors installed well
New Rockers I have no idea what they were thinking when installing these
New Cab corners same goes here
Chrome oil pan, air cleaner, other chrome odds and ends all NIB's
and a half of an 8' truck bed full of other odds and end chevy parts
Guy was done with all things chevy and had alot of good stuff saved up.
startes,flywheels,flexplates,c-50 stuff engine mounts,towers,brackets

I told him give me the 383 and he would have all the other stuff and not owe me anything. He agreed. All was cool.

Here's why it's so long. I got on ebay to look for parts for him and ran across the 72' SWB 2wd also in my sig. I bought that one for $610.00 so we both had one. I'm still not sure if that was a good deal or not It's gonna cost alot to fix it the way I want it.

Longer story shortened here. He got hard up for money and asked if I wanted to buy all the other stuff stated above. He said since I gave him the money in the first place $300 bucks and it's all yours truck and all the new parts listed. It did not take long for me to agree.

This is the only pic I have of it, It is alot better than what the pic shows it's all aprt here. And not at a very good angle.

Other than that Man I have been at this chevy thing too long. I could type all night. I have made alot of other GR8 deals!!

RJ22...

A runnable SM465/NP205 tranny and t-case for $50, or a completely rebuilt fresh 350 Chevy for $400 bucks.

So far I think RJ22 has gotten the best deal of all of us.

Re: Best parts deal you got for your 67-72!!!!!

Best parts deal so far has been the only parts run I have made for the truck.

Bought the truck for 500. Didnt know it was a 4 spd till I actually paid for it

The the parts run netted me complete rust/dent free doors, Tailgate, tailgate net, power steering box, power steering pump w/bracket, receiver hitch, chrome front bumper, and bucket seats. All the above parts cost me 300 bucks.

not too shabby....
