I can't find a new crush sleeve!!

I couldn't believe it. I've got the rear end at the shop (I don't have a press) getting the pinion installed. I was able to buy new pinion bearings, carrier bearings, and wheel bearings along with new axle and pinion seals. The only part that I cannot find at any parts store (nor can my mechanic seem to find one either) is the crush sleeve. LMC calls it a bearing spacer. It is part number 30-2916. I was just going to order one from there. They're charging 7.95 for one. But they wan't 7.25 for UPS shipping. I don't really want to spend 15 bucks for that little part. I havn't tried the dealership yet but I doubt they'll be much help. Any suggestions?

There. My rant is over. Guess I may break down and order one.

Re: I can't find a new crush sleeve!!

Do you still have the old one? You can reuse it. Just slide it onto the pinion and pound it down a little, while spinning it with your finger. It will get bigger. I just used a claw hammer and some light pounding, while you spin it. A friend of mine is a mechanic at a very reputable local shop told me that. That way it doesn't take a 3/4" impact at 200 psi. to crush the new one. I just had to change the pinion bearing and seal on the wifes 98 blazer today. What fun!! not. Or try NAPA.

Tried NAPA. They didn't have one. And I dunno about pounding it flatter. I'm just going on what the mechanic told me.

Re: I can't find a new crush sleeve!!

I find parts that mechanics can`t find all the time. They just get on the phone to one of theyr parts runners and if they don`t have it,they call you and say they can`t get the part. They`re not into scouring for parts,usually.Re-use doesn`t sound like a bad option. It`s not a bushing that wears out.

Re: I can't find a new crush sleeve!!

I stopped by the dealer today and they don't have a reference for that part number. The guy at the parts desk said their book only goes back to 1973. The book for the 72 and earlier trucks got thrown away. I just went ahead and ordered one. It'll get here quicker than me trying to find a dealer that has an old parts book.
