Bride of Young Frankenstein - 1957 Buick Super
Well, here we go again.
This time it's a project for/with my middle daughter, Biz. She has chosen a car from the 50's, I'm a little apprehensive. At her first car show, chronicled on our previous build Young Frankenstein, she fell in love with a 56 Bel Air and has talked ever since about us doing her a car. If you know me at all from my first build, its more about the challenge than anything else. After a lot of thoughtful study and consideration we decided we would want to end up with something different than every other guy at the next car show. Buick was known as the "Banker's Hotrod" back in the day and we are going to make sure of that. We'll get into the specifics as we go along, but our overarching theme will be drivability over all else, just like with Young Frankie. From the pictures you'll see we've got our work cut out for us, but a good part of the fun is the journey itself, especially when it's sharing time with your daughter.

Re: Bride of Young Frankenstein - 1957 Buick Super
Well, part of what I have planned is a trip this weekend to pick up some sheet metal and 2 parts cars. Leaving Saturday morning we hope to drive 17 hours to Sturgis, then on to Billings for straight front sheet metal (my hood has the worst fatigue stress crack), then back to Omaha for a 4 door, then to Bloomington for "another car", then home for Christmas.

Part of the fun challenge is that it's not a Bel Air that you can get any remanufactured or reproduction part you need. Buick parts are tough to come by and 57s are particularly unavailable as far as reproductions. Zero sheet metal is available - ZERO! So trying to bring one back from this condition will be tough, but rewarding and unique in the end.

It's not called "Alternate Tinkerings" for nothing, LOL. This build definitely belongs right here.
