tire size question

i have 33 12.5 15's on my truck now. im switching over to plain steel wheels with chrome caps. i havent really figured out the other way of tire sizing and im looking for equivilent of a 33 10.5 15. joesjunk new 4x4 has 235 85's those look pretty close...are they? if not what size would equal up to the 33 10.5...thanks from a tire size moron.

Re: tire size question

I think the 235/85 are about the same height, but skinnier than a 10.50. These metric sizes are a b!tch to figure! My 305/70/16's are same as 33/12.50

Re: tire size question

cg i'm in the same situation i have 235/85/16s on my duramax and they physically measure 30.5 and are about 9 inchs wide with the weight of the truck on them i looked in a tire catalog today and found that some tire companys offer a 255/85/16 that is 33.3 tall and about 10 inchs wide i think i'm going to get some of them for my 72 3/4 4x4 if i can find some that are affordable with an aggresive tread let me know what you end up with. Mike

Re: tire size question

its going to be tough to match that size exactly. but 285/75 16's come out to 32.8x11.2 thats kinda close but go check it out here http://www.raingler.com/tech/metricTire.asp
keep in mind that actual tire size is never what they say it is. especially offroad tires. i've seen 33x12.5's measure anywhere from 32x11 to 34x14. but thats part of the fun.

Re: tire size question

33x10.5x15 would be approximately a 267x86x15 or 265 85 15. The more common profile would be the 31x10.5x15 which is approximately a 265 75 15. The first number is width in mm and the second is the ratio of the width to the sidewall height. 10.5 x 25.4 = 266.7 or approximately 265. (33-15)/2 = 9 9 x 25.4 = 228.6 228.6/266.7 = 0.857 or approximately .85 or "85". Anyway...if those 33 x 12.5's were 16.5's...I'd buy from ya...LOL!
