Which hitch?
I'm looking to put a trailer hitch on my lifted 79. I tow frequently with my little F150, but I would also like the ability to tow with my Chevy as well.
What brand tow hitch do y'all have? I've seen some ugly ones, and some nice ones, and some that stick out too far. But I don't know which brand looks nice and which is ugly. The truck is rather lifted, so it does make a difference because it won't be "hiding" underneath the truck. Y'all got pictures?

Re: Which hitch?
I just installed a B&W receiver hitch on my truck and I love it. 16,000lb gross tongue weight and 1,600lb vertical tongue weight ratings. I believe this is the toughest built and highest quality hitch you can buy for these trucks. You can find them for $150 shipped on eBay which is only a few dollars more than lesser quality hitches. The fit is excellent with a sport bumper. All you really see is the receiver tube, the rest is tucked up under the truck fairly well. Also has a nice glossy powder coat finish that looks great. The best part is that it's made in the USA!
These hitches are designed for long bed trucks only, the side brackets are too long to work with a short bed frame. http://www.turnoverball.com/products...receiver-hitch

Anyone know of an unmodified one that will poke through the tag space on a sport bumper, or are those all homemade?

Re: Which hitch?
The model number I used is 25122. The truck is a 77 GMC half ton long bed.
Bought from here: http://www.ebay.com/itm/290971423222...222%26_rdc%3D1

Re: Which hitch?
I like the looks of that B&W reciever.
I didn't want to say it up front for fear of being chastised, but I'm actually looking for a receiver I can MODIFY, and the B&W looks like it might fit the bill. I didn't build my truck, so I'm stuck working with the existing platform. Right now my truck has a body lift on it, and a bracket was made to shift the rear bumper up accordingly to match the body height. Basically, this means the bumper and frame no longer have the same relationship. So any hitch receiver that I mount to the frame will not be tucked up under the bumper like normal, it will sit three inches lower. And as tall as my truck is, it will be in full view and look absolutely ridiculous. Anybody have experience with reciver hitches and body lifts? I hate body lifts in general, but not enough to remove it now that it's on there. Plus, I LOVE the look of this truck. This is the exact truck I dreamed about since I knew what lifted trucks were, I can't bring myself to change anything. I just want to add a reciever hitch to it.

Re: Which hitch?
too bad you are not a little closer to Stockton, Ca - have a Reese hitch for sale for $40 that you could modify.

Re: Which hitch?
got a class v reese on my crew. being lifted, it's prob going to hang down.
i actually had to lower mine an inch so the hitch side rails would clear my shackle flips. welded spacers on top of the bolt holes & shaved about 3/16 off the hitch side rails. |

Re: Which hitch?
do you guys have any pictures of your trailer wiring? I'm thinking about putting a hitch on my truck but i want to do the wiring clean not just spliced in with electrical tape.

Re: Which hitch?
I have the B&W Class V 16,000 lb hitch on mine. Its a good hitch and really well made. I would recommend it. I did have to drill one hole in the frame on each side, but otherwise it bolts up using existing holes. Its heavy duty - I pull a bumper trailer with it that is loaded up with 12,000 lbs of seed corn and it does great. Also has a place to mount the trailer wire harness to it which is nice.

Re: Which hitch?
Oops...I typed cross-fingered. I meant 25122. I have a 1983 GMC 2500. According to that eBay ad this hitch won't fit my truck.
I may call them to see if it will actually work or if they have another that will work. Looks like a great hitch! Thanks!

I can grab a picture tomorrow. What brackets are you talking about? The two "brackets" on mine bumper are just arms that come out straight and slide in between the frame rails. My hitch just bolts up to the bottom of the frame.
