Help with rear end ID

I am trying to find out what year axle I have swapped my truck over to. Here are the numbers:

KAA 023W91

3896839 on P/S and GM 80 on the D/S

Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated. I called the local Chevy dealer but they couldn't help me. I've always searched on the internet quite extensively but come up with next to nothing. Thanks!

Re: Help with rear end ID

What trans/motor did the truck originally have? Somewere around here theres an FAQ or something saying that you jack 1 rear tire off the ground spin it and count rotation or driveshaft or yoke, that'll tell you (with right formula) what gear ratio you've got.

Or pull the cover and put new gear oil/gasket (Probably needs it anyway lol)

Re: Help with rear end ID

I have the diff drained and know the ratio, but I was just trying to figure out the year to make it easier for replacing drums and brake parts. I guess it was all pretty much standard for 73-87 but I'm the curious type. Oldblue...I lived in North Ogden for 2 1/2 years. Not too far from your neck of the woods...
