The Project formerly known as "E.P." now known as Bruise N' Cruise

E.P. for Empty Pockets that is. Bought my first ever truck after driving the hand me down Saturn my parents gave me for my 16th b-day. It's a 1967 C10, SWB, small window, has a 250 inline six and two speed powerglide transmition. It's going to be a HUGE learning experience for me as I don't know too much about automotives but I've got a great desire to learn. This is going to go extremely slow as I'm only 16 and I only get $130.00 to spend on it every month. My job pays minimum wage, I only get like 13 hours a week, and every other paycheck goes to insurance. I'll be asking lots of questions as I start with the build on certain things, first ones going to be on the wheel cylinder. How do you get the bolt off that's holding on the wheel cylinder? Me and my dad finally ended up taking an impact wrench to it and it still didn't break, is there some trick to getting it off? Also, what is the part located between the hood and the windshield, it's severely messed up and I need to get a new one for the truck. Heres some pictures of us bringing it home from Moultrie and then some of the wheel cylinder and other miscellaneous pictures for you guys to look at. By the way, the truck runs and drives, it just has absolutely no breaks so we're replacing them. If you have any questions feel free to ask and I'll answer to the best of my ability.

As for the part mentioned above, does anyone have one they are willing to sell or give me a quote for one?

Re: Project "E.P."

Great start and enjoy working on your truck!

For the wheel cylinder, I ended up just grinding off the head on one of mine that was stuck. Since you'll be replacing the wheel cylinder anyway its not a big deal. Just be careful not to nick the brake line with your grinder, unless you are replacing those too, then no big deal.

I understand the minimum wage thing too...I got mine when I was 16 also, after driving a hand-me-down S10. I worked minimum wage jobs too all though high school and had to save up months for stuff, but it was a lot of fun!

Haha, Luke, I've got a Saturn SL as well, seems like were in the same boat. I'll see about grinding it off, gotta see what we have in the shop, think a dremels the best thing we have. Looks like I'll be buying some new tools in the process as well.

Re: Project "E.P."

Looks like you got a great truck !!! The piece between the windshield and the hood is called a cowl . Wish you lived in Iowa I would give you one . I remember what it was like to be 16 and have a limited budget . I think the shipping on the cowl would be pricey from here. should be able to find one locally in good shape. Keep up the good work !!! I love to see young people showing interest in old trucks!!! Bob

Re: Project "E.P."

Well hey, it may be cheaper to ship than to buy one. If your really up giving it up I can check on shipping prices and I'd be happy to pay for it.

Re: Project "E.P."

Let me get a weight and shipping cost for you !!! PM me with your address . Monday I will try to get you a price . I should be able to ship it through the company my wife works for . Be patient with me it might take me a couple of days to get a price . If it 's not too much I may even pay for it for you . Like I said it's good to see someone of your age showing interest in doing this yourself and I would be glad to help you out !!! So PM me that address and let me see what I can do . The cowl that I have is maroon but in good shape and your more than welcome to it . I would rather see you have it than sell it . Just to show you this board is full of great people willing to help out !! Talk to you soon . Bob

Yeah, that looks much better than mine, on the passenger side, the part closest to the hood is completely bent in the opposite direction and has started to rust through.

Re: Project "E.P."

Thanks a ton man, if theres anything I can do for you let me know.

Update: Managed to get the bolt off, had to get a new socket wrench but it worked. Now it's just a matter or rebuilding all of the wheel cylinders and the brakes should be good to go(or so I hope).

Re: Project "E.P."

Oh man, that'd be awesome. Me and my dad were just talking of converting the brakes to disc. If you could, think I could get your zip and the weight of it so I can find out shipping costs. If possible I may even see if my dad can take me up there since he probably wouldn't let me drive all the way to N.C.

Ouch, not sure if I'm doing the shipping costs right, or if theres any other way to ship it other than freight, but ups and fedex are both giving me estimates of around 560.00 to ship it. My zips 32327. Hopefully I can just talk my dad into driving up there with me.

Go to USHIP.COM. you can find someone to pick it up for you and save money. It is like ebay you get bids for the shipping and accept the one you want. I use them for large items all the time.

Just checked and they only allow for you to ship stuff under 100lbs.
