@$#*! i cant decide om motor!!!!!!!!
i was definately gonna get that finished 454from Riptide, but he moved and sold it, so now i'm gonna get a 454 from a 90 454ss, but went and looked at the 350 that someone told meabout, 475 hp, edelbrock alum heads, all edelbrock accessories, complete, $2000!!!!!!, so it all comes down to CAN I build a stock 454 to 500 hp on $1000??????? i'm guessing that without a bottle the answer is no, i wish i only ahd 1 motor to choose from, i'm ready to start teh 4x4 that its going into, thanks

Is that dyno proven? It's hard to get 475HP out of a 350 and still be well mannered driving around town.

that 475 horsepower small block has my vote. if anything sell it to some one else for more money and buy the big block

If it were me I would go with the small block if the #s are true. Keep in mind though on WHO built the motor. Did he/she know what they were doing. Yes I know a few wemen that can build a good motor.

Unless the small block is dynoed and built by a reputable builder (not "your friends' buddy that built a race engine in high school one time"), go with the big block. Post the vitals of the small block here and I'm sure someone will tell you if the numbers are bs or not and if it's streetable or not. If you can't get all the specifics (ie cam, head numbers,valve size etc.) then go for the big block.

id say make sure SB is what its calimed to be then buy it sell it for more(cuz if its a 475hp its got more than $2000 in it) then get the BB and all the things you need to get it up to the magic 500. but the BB a good set of heads will turn that motor around.

BUY THE BIG BLOCK!!!!!
1. "If" the 350 is making 475 horses{which I don't believe without a bottle or blower}it is a race motor and will suck on the street. 2.You said it is going in a 4X4. For that you need low end torque, which a 475 horse small block will have none. 3. Big blocks look soooo cool under the hood.

it was built by a guy i know that builds racing engines for a living, owns a machine shop too. i dont know why i keep asking this question, i've heard that once you've ownd a bb you never go back, so its decided, BB here i come i have about 2 grand to put into it if i cant get to 500 with 1 grand i'm gonna go all out

You can buy this professionally built 406 ci small block for about $2500 the last I heard.

502!! baby! just kidding, I would definately go with the the BB since you do want low end torque in a 4X4. I would not get the sb unless you know it has been built by a great engine builder, even if they have all the paper work showing what they bought to go into the sb, I still would not buy it until you found out who built it. They should have a dyno sheet to back up that kind of HP too. You could build the bb to have the same hp and it would last alot longer too.

if your hearts set on a big block...GO for it...that 475 hp sbc is most likely around 360 hp...if that high. lol i have found out how truley hard it is to get over 400 true hp.. maybe a huge roller cam and 11-1 c/r and fuel injection. oh yea. 195 afr heads would help
