1971 longhorn hubcaps restored

hubcaps restored. two chrome pics, one stainless steel. The SS came out very well, the chrome still shows some rust on one. They said the chrome ones really should be rechromed if i want them to be perfect. I don't so it's ok. got them restored by hubcaps.com is Calif. then a pic of the overall truck.
enjoy

Re: 1971 longhorn hubcaps restored

Glad to see clean factory looking "real" trucks, not everyone here is into transforming trucks into street rods. Always worth preserving the original look of the way they were built, even though were in the minority. These models unfortunately were made with very weak thin chrome caps that dent easily.Stainless steels (much stronger) started to appear around 72 ( with blue bowties) at some assembly plants. The GMC hubcap shown actually is the 73 style, 69 thru 72 GMC's had red letters with black center section.

same color, mine came with a 350/350 trans,AC. but the previous owner welded down diamond plate over the wood bed.
I've got the same rims but it is a pain finding those 16.5 tires. Cooper is the only one i've heard of that still has em.

For the love of god, just drive it before you forget what the truck is supposed to look like !....LOL

Re: 1971 longhorn hubcaps restored

The original hubcaps on the 71 Chevy were chrome, not stanless steel. They are hard to find at the salvage yards, (or anywhere else)(chrome or stainless steel) . I found one and it was so thin that there was a slight split near the center. No one that I'm aware of are reproducing them either. I haven't had to buy 16.5 tires yet, these are still pretty good. Maybe Hancook (sp) made them? I queried the internet and there was a company that made them. Getting them delivered, etc could be a challenge.

The truck is stock. Dad took good care of it. Just had the engine detailed, am working on getting the antenae on, and the cigerette lighter working, and a few other minor things. Cleaning the undercarriage is the next/last thing the truck really needs. I intend to keep it stock the best I can. I love the V-8 engine sound.

Nice GMC.
