Sending unit fix
I thought I would share this in hopes it might help some people later on down the line fix their sending unit so they can have a gas gauge in their truck.
So a while back I bought a new sending unit for my truck because the old one was toast. I installed it check it, it worked, went in for the night came out the next morning and it didn't work. It's been a while since I have been able to get to investigating it but today I did. Pulled the sending unit then hooked it up and moved the arm and the gauge would not do anything. Hmmm odd. Got to looking at it real hard and started playing with that metal ribbon that goes from the piece that connects to the arm and the where the wire to the gas gauge hooks up at. Bang the guage started working. What? So it seems if that metal ribbon touches any of the metal pipes going down it essentially causes it to read too much resistance and the gauge reads empty. I moved it way away from all the pipes and any other metal pieces and now it works perfectly. So now my gas gauge is working again and I can stop writing down my mileage and hoping I don't run out of gas going places. I hope this will help someone out there. Diabloceto |
