How many miles per gallon?

How many gallons does an 87 GMC 1500 tank have. Its a duel tank, how much do they hold each?

Also, how many miles per gallon does a stock 305 engine get (fuel injected). Approximently?

the tanks on a short bed will hold 16 gal each and a long bed will hold 20 gal. Sometimes you will see a 16 gal on a LWB but not very often.

On the FI 305 no idea. Depends on tranny and rear axle ratio.

My 1986 1/2 ton gets 10 mpg. 305, TH700R4, 3.73, 29" tires. It is worse than it sounds, since I live 30 miles from anywhere, and it takes premium and still pings. While I drive it like a 17 year old, i really don't think it should get this bad, should it? I need help, as I am going broke. Thanks!

I got you all beat! (except marksdoor69 I guess) My 82 one ton crewcab 4x4 got all of 5-6 mpg doing 75. If I dropped it to 65, I usually got 8-9.

The worse was 3.8 mpg and that was pulling a trailer into a head wind. We had to go 600 miles like that. The truck only had one 20 gallon tank (the other one was disconnected). We'd leave the gas station and would hope we could see another one on the horizon. That trip sure sucked. We had to fill up every 60-75 miles.
