Bubba's recycling project
Found a bracket off a six cylinder Camaro which had been butchered to fit around a set of headers, I Did not have the rest of the pieces so I just built them. The bracket as found, And after repair
I already had the pulleys installed so I left the alternator on the inside pulleys and set the power steering pump to line up with the front pulleys

Re: At Last- Power steering in a I-6
The lower alternator bracket which bolts to the block. It had been 'adjusted' in the past and was just about out of metal at the rear hole. The new bracket moved the alternator forward 1/4" which lined up the pulleys better

Thats sweet looking. I have my stock springs if you want I'll send them to you. I put jeep ones on mine. Let me know and I'll make sure I still have them.Chrome in the Dome was lame. No bags, no frame dragers. Only one 63 and a couple 51's.

I need to take a closer look at this. I had to add a two belt pulley to my alternator and didn't feel that was a good thing. Your's is much cleaner!

I went to double pulleys they seem to run smoothly with no trouble so far. I just love the power steering now only takes one finger. Here are some pic's of my set up, also my engine had the short water pump.---Vernski

That turned out great Bruce. Have you driven it yet? Did you get the steering box bracket squared away?

New gear box is in. Clearance is perfect with the 71 tie-rods New tilt auto column from a 77 Nova I had Recycled the 77 Nova brackets with some modifications. Working on a new bracket to hang the E-brake back under the column. Thinking about flipping the E- brake handle over and pointing it towards the passenger side. Would still be mounted flat under the column and right under the edge of the dash. .... still thinking about this ....Anybody have other ideas on E-brake options???

Re: At Last- Power steering in a I-6
Found the pump at a swap meet this last weekend. Cost me two dollars. Came with a power steering gear box which also cost me two dollars. The gear box has the same casting number as the new 71-72 gearbox I just bought. Oh well. I decided to go with a new gearbox just so reliability was not a question. I have a totally new front end and did not want the gearbox to be loose.

And if I did find a donor truck with disc brake calipers, could I just buy 6 lug rotors that would work with them? Thanks!

Re: At Last- Power steering in a I-6
Bluesfella --CPP had a package on E-Bay which I bought for less than catalog price. It fit 71 & 72 spindles with 6 lug and used GM calipers. I have heard other guys have had trouble with CPP but I had no problems at all. 1971 was the first year front disc were standard issue. I also have a 71 so when I found a 1971 rolling chassis on craigslist I grabbed it. I can salvage the other stuff for my 71. Guys say 73 and up makes a better swap due to availability and rubber bushings .

Re: At Last- Power steering in a I-6
Looks good bubba327. I got a 61 and I've been told I could use a 73 as a donor truck for the both the ps and pb. Whats your opinion since you do have a 63.

Re: At Last- Power steering in a I-6
E-Brake in basic position under Nova tilt column. Hanging where it clears and works well. More brackets need to be built
Removed the offsets from the brake pedal arm. This moved the pedal over away from the gas pedal. With out the clutch pedal the gas and brake were just too close. Welded on the larger foot pedal. Even says disc brakes on the foot pedal. New piece welded on the side is for the brake light switch to hit. Recycled a piece of the old 64 bracket. I left the brake pedal bump stop. Heated and bent the old tab back flat again (that held the old brake light switch) Welded on a new bracket facing out and welded on a new bracket on the arm so brake light switch is now accessible. . Original wiring reached the terminals
