Alternator squeaking in 70 c/20
Need help finding the problem with the alternator in my 1979 c20
Probably just needs to be replaced but if you have any info let me know |

Check the belt tension first and condition of the belt...
Alternators usually don't squeak... |

As Aussie said, Belts squeak, alternator bearings may squeak right before they seize up.
With the belt removed, is the alternator tough to turn?

Try changing the tension on the belt, but before you do that, put a bar of soap against the belt while the engine is running. It will often silence (or at least change the sound of) a squeaking belt. Be careful not to damage any body parts, such as your fingers.
