breather/breather spacer question
i have seen breather spacers that have the pvc connected to them and some that dont, what is the difference? my 69 had a cheap chrome breather on it when i bought it with the pvc connected at the base of the carb. at a local swap meet i purchased a carb spacer and breather for 25 bucks. this one has no place for the pvc in the spacer or the breather. (not sure if the breather is correct for our trucks but looks way better than what i had) i would post pics but me and the camera are not getting along at this time hope this makes sense. thanks

As long as you have a PVC, it doesn't matter whether it's located in the breather or directly in the valve cover. It's all a matter of preference. You should have a PVC somewhere, though. I personally don't like the idea of the air filter-based connection because I think it trashes your carb. I suppose the extra filters on them do the job, but I prefer using the carb-base manifold vaccuum. I've always setup my PVC based on how many holes I have in my valve covers. Currently I have three holes and use one for the PCV directly in a grommet, one for a simple breather and one for my oil fill. If I only have two holes I use the PVC type breather in one and use the other for oil fill. That way you can always have an unbaffled opening for your oil fill and a baffled openings for your PVC and breather. I think it's best when you have the PVC on one valve cover and a breather on the other valve cover with a seperate oil fill (in the front.) That's why I like three valve cover holes best...
Wow, that a lot of logic just for the dang PVC... lol 8)

are you talking a carb spacer under the carb, or are you talking about an air filter spacer that fits under the ait filter?
Having a breather and PCV valve on the same side is better than nothing, but not by much. You want fresh air on one valve cover, be it a simple breather, or a tube to the air cleaner/air cleaner spacer, and you want a PCV on the other valve cover run to full manifold vacume, be it the carb, the carb spacer, or a large port on the intake. |

on the pass side cover there is a PVC valve that connects to the base of the carb, only one hole in cover this side. on the driver side there is a breather that also is my oil fill, and hole at back (near firewall) that is plugged. longhorn man, what your saying is the air cleaner spacer that has the fitting for a rubber hose can be connected to the plugged hole on driver side valve cover, leave PVC along, and use front hole for oil fill on driver side?

just orderd new valve covers, I like having pvc and breather but I could not find a 3 hole cover I liked that fit my heads, orderd a 2 hole(1 in each) still want to run a breather and pvc, is it ok to fill oil in a baffled hole, performance part 141-108, sorry for the hijack

fdbdw, im assuming the new valve covers you ordered are aftermarket style(chrome..etc..) i also looked around too, but i wanted some oem style and found a ebay store: hotzone performance (would have posted link but dont know how)that had a set of oem LOOKING covers for 18 bucks that has the 3 holes. waiting on them to see how they look.

I have after market 3 hole now, cost about 30 bucks and warped so now one leaks, so I decided to pay a little extra( polished die cast allum) to hopefully resist warping,

breather on one side and pvc on the other, has oil drippers also ( dont realy know what those are) is it ok to fill oil through one of them even with baffles

You can fill thru the baffles, just takes along time. Let it sit for awhile to make sure most of the oil drains off the baffles.

I think you can get a breather with an internal baffle. You could use it as an oil fill and not use a baffled hole in the valve cover. This would make your oil fills a lot more tolerable...
