1970 6 lug to 5 ?

Is it true that the 1970 six lug rear ends can be converted to 5 lug while others can not? I am just wondering, since I am removing the 6 lug rear today out of my parts truck.

just swap out the axles and you are done. I wouldn't say that this is a 1970 only. Some time in the 69-70 model year the tracking width was changed. I have had several 69 C10's that had the wide track of the 70+ trucks. That plus, in 30 years, who knows what has been swapped in or out of a truck by previous owners.

I put axles from a 77 12 bolt into my 70 rear. Just a streight swap.
