Thumbs up 71 C20 Eaton locker posi score

Yesterday was finally the day I located a posi for my C20. I've only been looking for a few years now!!! Found one in a junkyard. First I saw G86 no spin rear on the glove label, then investigated further.

Once I confirmed it was a posi, I just yanked the center section out. Gear oil was fairly clean with no metal particles. Wear pattern on teeth look great!

The best part.....I paid $31.75 for it at a local pick n pull!

Now the only thing is I don't know what the gear ratio is yet. Hoping it's a 4.10 and if so, I can use it and simply bolt it right in. Truck had a 350 and the big 4 speed so probably a 4.10 (pray).

Since you have the center section out, the ratio will be stamped on the ring gear.

Beware, they are notorious for not liking left turns at low speeds.

Re: 71 C20 Eaton locker posi score

I've never had issues with any of my No-Spins. It does take a technique, which is easy enough to figure out once you drive them. Just have to lay back on the throttle taking off on a right or left turn. The inner wheel wants to spin since it's "locked" to the outer wheel. I kinda like touching it just enough to let it scratch to let those who would know be aware it's got a locker. Only a locker turns a wheel so effortlessly. I've never noticed bad tire wear from them, either.
That's a great price. Just an old truck differential at the junkyard. I've never paid more than $100 for a third member, but I see lately people thinking they are worth way more than they are.

That black one has been there for a while now. I know it was there last summer, I got the lighter out of it. Looks pretty much the same as when I saw it last.

Never saw the bottom one. I've seen some crazy things especially at that yard. I remember a 69 Chevelle that had a sunroof that was literally bondo'd in! 2 inches thick or so.

I have to get out there again. Only bad part is he thinks everything is gold plated when you go to pay for the stuff.

Sounds like fun to me!

I know what you mean on value. If I ebay'd this thing, I bet I'd get at least 6 bills for it.

what yard did you score the pig from? Just curious to see what other yards are out there. New ringgold is great for prices but picked apart so fast by those that dont work through the week.

Live over near Maple Grove. I ussually dont get to them when they make it to the yard, but still end up finding a lot of decent stuff. I have so many projects, there always seems to be something I can use at ez-pull.

Yep, EZ pull in New Ringgold. I'm usually a day late on new arrivals so I know what you mean. I've seen complete cars get stripped to the bare bones in 2 days flat!!!

Someone got all the "first to go stuff" from this truck but obviously didn't notice the posi.

If you go there, look for a red 71/72 C20 at the bottom. Check out the wheel well moldings! They look factory but can't be???? Would have got them but 2 were damaged from the loader. !#@$! Also has a nice dual exhaust system on it. (or did when I was there)

Re: 71 C20 Eaton locker posi score

couple weeks ago I saw a truck up at e z pull that had one new trailing arm on it nice shiny black an it still had stickers on it! Yhea bob, klingers can get pricey.I pulled a nice black carpet outa a nova there an he wanted $80!! I left it there an came back two weeks later an it was still there so i asked again an got it for $20 he's funny sometimes. I asked about that black truck cab an clip an he threw a price that wasnt bad. I wish doug in auburn had better pickens.I allways get good deals there.

Re: 71 C20 Eaton locker posi score

They are neat looking. I don't think there was a factory wheel well molding but these sure could pass for them if there were.

Heading to Carlisle in a few hours. Hope to find some goodies there.

Yeah, I had no idea so many local guys were into trucks like I am! And I certainly didn't realize so many guys thought it was fun wandering around acres and acres of junkyard getting dirty pulling parts like they're prospecting for gold. (Which is how I think of it)

Re: 71 C20 Eaton locker posi score

In my area, I'm the only one that actually drives my oldies. Any time of the year as long as the roads are dry. I've always been amazed at the little amount of old cars you see but when the Pottsville & St. Clair car cruise comes, there are hundreds if not thousands!

I couldn't own old cars and only take them out one or two days a year. Seems wrong to me.

I drive my 69 & 71 trucks almost daily and 3 of my antique cars are always kept insured and licensed, ready to roll anytime the urge hits me. (and mother nature allows)

As for junkyarding, I LOVE IT! It's a big treasure hunt and you never know what might be around the next corner. I've seen some crazy things and some sad ones. Some old cars brought in look like you could drive them out! Many don't belong there but I can't bring home anymore strays.

Nice score on that differential. All the upullit yards in my area where purchased by a steel/scrap metal business and prices have gone through the roof! I'm making a trip out to central Oregon next week to hit some rural wrecking yards to find what I need. I'm not getting hosed by these guys in town. Nicer folks over there (Central Oregon) anyway...

Re: 71 C20 Eaton locker posi score

There is a yard down here in bernville I would love to get in but they closed doors about five years ago rite after the big metal muncher was there for a couple weeks. But there is still lots of vintage metal there. The big crusher was at most of the yards around here that year many casualties.now even scrap trucks are $500-1000
