Question 1" Bodydrop with body mounts? Is it that simple?

Just thinking out loud right now!

What issues if any could I expect by lowering the body mounts an inch? I've got a high hump tranny cover laying around, 2.5" spindles, and plan on bagging with maybe an 8" pipe in LCA for an extra inch or so and a notch out back.

Is it really just that simple as lowering the body mounts an inch and throwing it all back on?

Re: 1" Bodydrop with body mounts? Is it that simple?

wont work.

1. the bushings are only 1" tall, so removing them would make it metal to metal.
2. the bed doesnt use bushings so you would still have to "traditional" BD it.
3. these trucks dont need a body drop to lay body, just requires either a "Z" or new drop member which is big $$$

1. I believe he's considering relocating the mounts, not removing the bushings.
2. Not only the bed; the front clip will need mods @ the radiator core support.
3. On 67-72's, the frame is just below the rocker pinch weld approx ~1". So if a guy just wants to lay the pinch weld by dropping the mounts, it's 'do-able' (a couple of site members have done this on their trucks).

Like you mention though, it costs money to go low. If you're not doing it yourself, you have to consider 'how low can I afford to go'.

Building a small, high rpm engine with the perfect bore, stroke and rod ratio is very impressive.
It's like a highly skilled Morrocan sword fighter with a Damascus Steel Scimitar.....

Cubic inches is like Indiana Jones with a cheap pistol.

That would be a rough ride though..... Ouch! Imagine some low profile tires too.....

Re: 1" Bodydrop with body mounts? Is it that simple?

Thanks guys! Yeah, I was referring to just lower the body mounts down an inch.

SCOTI, I now see what you mean about the radiator support. I guess you could just notch it around the frame and reinforce. The only other thing I can think of is to drop the front/rear bumper brackets down an inch also. Besides the bed floor, is there anything else I'm missing in my distorted head?

Re: 1" Bodydrop with body mounts? Is it that simple?

Depends....

What motor? Where it's positioned on the frame vs. the firewall could lead to clearance issues (firewall vs. dizzy; trans bell housing vs. tunnel height). You could drop the front frame horns on both sides (including the core support) & if you're running a rear bumper the brackets will need to be modified as well.

That's a fair amount of work for only 1".

Well I guess my title "Is it that simple?" has been answered!

SCOTI, the Motor is a 350 SBC, but I'm not sure on the positioning you mentioned. Would notching the rad support and dropping mounts have the same effect as dropping frame horns or am I missing something?

You're right, it does seem like a lot of work for a measily inch! But like I said I was thinking out loud and you guys just happened to hear me!

Notching the support & dropping the mounts would have the same effect. Just seems like there would be less work involved to drop everything as a unit w/slices on the rails vs. notching several different pieces (remember, the bumper has to come down to if you're running one).
