Need Recommendations
I have a completely stock 250 inline 6 - I've been thinking of replacing the carb, and maybe going to an HEI. Any thoughts or recommendations on those? Good ideas or not?

Re: Need Recommendations
HEI would be a good trouble free upgrade that would make it more reliable and provide more power.

Re: Need Recommendations
Two additional questions: what carb and HEI would everyone recommend on my 250?

Re: Need Recommendations
If you're short on cash look for a GM six cylinder vehicle in the junk (salvage) yards and rebuild it. That's what I did. The rebuild process will give you good experience on how they work and you can get parts from any reliable dealer like NAPA, Car Quest or the internet. Also, there's a lot of good information on how to rebuild them on the net, you tube and here on this site. Used ones usually go for around $20 around here.
Some have mentioned that the Ebay ones are decent but I couldn't get myself to buy red hei's. I've seen others in specialty sites but the cost goes up dramatically. |

Re: Need Recommendations
I went to the local Pull a part and got a factory HEI from a 76 up truck. There's a great install write up by member "shifty" in the FAQ's.The gathering of parts took way longer than the 45 or so install. That's from hood up to pulling out of the drive.Runs smoother, starts and idles better and has more pwoer through the whole rpm range. No way would I skip this.Even on a stock restore I would do pertronix.
I rebuilt my carb and helped it even more.I doubt there's a better choice of carb unless you replace intake also. That usually means a header swap also.It can get pricey.I have the intake but haven't found a deal on headers or a carb yet. This is just my opinion and experience and I used the sop dyno to quantify my results.
