Re: Trucks with door handles (exterior) - Sound off

The only piece of chrome on the side of my truck is the stock door handle. I believe it adds, not detracts, in my minimal chrome theme. It is all really subjective. I like the idea of reversing the pin and lock mechanisms like the shaved handle guys do but I wanted the handles more. Haven't seen an aftermarket handle I thought fit on a task force body.

I like keeping the handles. I shaved them once and it was a pain to get in. By the way thats a 69 Camaro.

Man am I glad my kids didn't see that. LOL I KNOW those cars and KNEW that was a '69. I typed it first then went looking for a photo of one and that photo was perfect so I posted it not realizing I was pulling such a fopa.

I have those too, but haven't installed them yet. Still debating using them but I do admit I'm intrigued by the engraving on yours. Who did that for you? How does it work? Do you do that before re-chroming them or after? If after, does the engraving go all the way through the plating?

Here you go, Carlos Salas Engraving: 626 840-5871 in the city of Azusa off the 210 Frwy, he will 1st remove the chrome and then engrave the parts and then have them triple plated chrome again, never meeting the guy before I had a good business transaction with him.
here's another pic:

Re: Trucks with door handles (exterior) - Sound off

Personally, I believe the door handles belong on about 99% of hot rods and customs out there. Now understand, I REALLY like customizing, chops sections frenched lights, I love it all. But the handle thing, unless it's a full on 50 Merc kinda custom, I don't get it.

Something like a 68 Camaro with shaved handles is WAY off the mark in my opinion.

I don't get it, I just don't get it.

This is just opinions of another human, that's all.

Re: Trucks with door handles (exterior) - Sound off

I use Genie garage door handles from Home Depot on my '46. Bolted right on with very little modification.' I don't think they will work on the '47 or newer but for the earlier stuff unless you know what the original ones look like you wouldn't know the difference. Sorry don't have a close up picture. I think they where like 8 bucks each. I've been running them for 12 years now with no issues.

I DO and they look like this:

Unfortunately, this is the most clear photo I have of my former '46's door handles. I never would have thought of something like Genie garage door handles. Only shows how ingenious some guys are. Incidentally, I'm pretty sure steer horns were NOT optional equipment on those trucks.

I've got stock handles with the scratch shields. I've also got locking buttons in both sides.

It made me smile. I can just imagine those as a reply to some tough guy DMV inspector saying "You gotta put a horn on that thing or it won't go on the road."

Re: Trucks with door handles (exterior) - Sound off

Here is my nephews truck, he has a little different slant on the door handle idea, just leave them off without filling the hole or anything.

Now before you call his truck a "rat rod" (he hates that) it really is a "traditional" rod, there is a difference. But he keeps winning those awards, 5 in the last 6 shows.

I paid the bucks for the Altman set-up and changed it slightly to incorporate power locks. I also got Brothers exterior handles with key locks for both doors.

I used the Brothers one piece power window kit. Both systems fit together without modification although the locks and the stock rear track for the window were very close, like the instructions mention.
