That annoying 3rd hole!!!

Somebody has had to have come up with a way to Fill/Plug that 3rd Hole!

You know....that ANNOYING 3rd Hole in the Dash Bezel,
of some 67-72 C-10's/GMC's.
The one that's between the Speedometer and the Tach.

I'm thinking of getting a Billet Dash Bezel, but I only have 5 Gauges.
So I'm wondering if there's any one person (or Company) that has come up with a "Plug or Insert" that will fit into this Hole?

Something that is NICE LOOKING and not Trashy!
Maybe something with an emblem or Logo?

I could go out and buy a Clock or something, but quite honestly I don't wanna pop for the added expense.

So I thought I'd ask if anyone HERE had a Solution???

I've enclosed a picture of the Dash in this post.

There IS a Billet Dash Bezel that is made for only 5 Gauges, but it requires that you "CUT TABS" out of each side of the Dash.

Cut too much and you S.O.L.

Re: That annoying 3rd hole!!!

The picture of your dash isn't posted. I am guessing it's aftermarket since you are saying the hole between the tach and the speedo. Have you looked at making a bezel out of a glove box door? Probably a bit cheaper than a billet dash, and you put the holes wherever you want.

Re: That annoying 3rd hole!!!

I'm guessing he means the open spot where the factory tachometer went. Could get one of those from LMC, etc. Problem solved.

Re: That annoying 3rd hole!!!

Sorry, Forgot to post the picture.
I re-loaded it into my initial post.

I do not want to buy another Gauge to fill in the hole.
My thought process was, that there may have been a Forum Member that had designed something to Fill this hole.

Like I said, there IS a company that makes a reconfigured Bezel, in the same shape, but the Gauge Location is different, therefore you have to cut out, in 2 places on the Dash.
I don't posses the Tools, Knowledge or ambition.
I was looking for a Brushed Billet Gauge Cluster, that I can pop my old (Pro Comp) Gauges into, and "bolt it in".
The one pictured in my Post accomplishes that, but then there's that 3rd hole...ergo, my Dilemma.

I wonder how close a '67-'68 horn button would come to being the right size? Might look good with the billet. Just a thought.

Re: That annoying 3rd hole!!!

Are you running an auto tranny? If so you could put a trans temp gauge, or exhaust temp, oil temp, fuel pressure... just a few ideas off the top of my head. This is kind of a silly idea, but what if you could find a tweater or micro speaker to put in it, or just make a BA cap, maybe machined billet or aluminum with your trucks name or something meaningful to you.

Edit* sorry I hadnt read post #5 very closely where you stated you didnt want to buy another gauge.

Re: That annoying 3rd hole!!!

I have a spare 1971 Monte Carlo cluster (same as Chevelle SS) laying around. One cold winter evening many years ago I messed around with it and a spare truck cluster. The speedo bolts right in where the truck speedo goes. The only issues is the PRND1D2 window cut out in the Monte speedo - which probably isn't cut out in a straight stick Monte speedo.

My Monte cluster was an idiot light cluster so it had a clock instead of a tach. But the tach is the same size as the clock. And since they are all the same size as each other, you could do something like Monte/Chevelle SS tach in the truck fuel gauge hole, aftermarket or other Chevrolet fuel gauge in the center truck hole, and leave the speedo where it is.

For my truck I put an aftermarket tach in the tach hole and a clock in the open hole next to the steering wheel.

Just thinking out loud...

How bout this?? I made this today on the drill press at home, I just used my cousins 2 axis adjustable vice as a makeshift milling machine table. It was rather easy like that, but would be extremely easy with a Bridgeport type vertical mill, and it would turn out really clean cut. This one isn't exactly perfect as the vice I used was a cheapo, but thats all I had. The bowtie is cut in about an 1/8th inch.

I'm trying to identify the size WITHOUT having to take the Bezel out and measure those gauges.

That being said, they DO fit in the OEM GM Bezel,
so does anyone know if that size measures 2 1/16" or 2 5/8"?

I've attached 2 pictures of my set up.
Those look like the 2 1/16. I have 2 5/8 gauges in mine and fill the entire hole without seeing the bezel. Pics attached.

Nice job! Paint the whole thing black and then use some steel wool to knock the paint off of the top and then you'll have a winner!

Re: That annoying 3rd hole!!!

In my dash I put a 6 autometer guages in it (tach, speedo, volt, temp, oil pressure, and fuel) For the middle hole I modified a turn signal panel (from a guage panel that didn't have the auxilary guages) So I'm using the arrows in the panel as the turn signal indicator, one dummy light for my check engine light, and I believe the other dummy light is the bright light indicator.

I'll post pictures later.

I just don't get why you wouldn't want more gauges. Especially on an older vehicle, I like to get all the input I can get... You know, like windshield washer fluid viscosity, PSI of antifreeze going into vs. out of the heater core, humidity of the air inside the air cleaner... just some thoughts...

If I have my Settlement it's no problem, but right now it boils down to putting out $$ that I don't have.

I DO appreciate all the input though.

I'm REALLY looking at the Auto Meter Clock if I HAVE to buy one.
