69 Overdrive pics
Couple of shots of the OD trans. Ground was wet so I didnt get and good close ups of the trans and misc hook ups.
I know people like to see how this stuff looks in the truck so Ill try to get better pics as I start scrapping out the truck. Scrapping means junking out all the rusty stuff...not parting it out for sale.

Re: 69 Overdrive pics
thats how my 69 was, I never noticed any difference pulled or not, however, when it was puled i could shift into 1st going 90 mph without pressing the clutch, just shift right in. It acted like a automatic. and would just ride like the clutch was pressed in. Dont know if it was supposed to be like that but it worked

Re: 69 Overdrive pics
is this an electric OD like the British Morgans, Healeys?
Just wondering if its a predecessor to the gearvendor's OD units. Does this add gears? in other words, the gear vendors changes a trans from a 3 speed auto to a 6 speed auto. It does the same to a manual trans.

Re: 69 Overdrive pics
that's not a Th400, it is a manual tranny, most likely a 3 speed. Also, there was never a cross member on the manual tranny trucks.

Re: 69 Overdrive pics
Ok, here is a pic of the spid which I forgot to post earlier. I bet this was a sweet looking truck when brand new.
And Botietruck is this what you referring to? Let me know if this is good or you need a better pic.

1957 Chevrolets had a 3 speed overdrive transmission option that looks almost identical. I have one of them. LockDoc

Re: 69 Overdrive pics
Anybody have any idea on what percentage the overdrive would be on one of those?

Re: 69 Overdrive pics
CG, thanks for the pics. Can you tell me where the cable support clamp bracket in the last pic is attached to? It looks like it could be attached to the corner bolt on the trans. side cover, but I'm not sure.

Re: 69 Overdrive pics
My dad put one in his 72 w/ a 250. they work great, but are not too stout. He had to replace his often, and he was not hard on it at all. The cable will lock the trans from shifting into overdrive. Leon, you are correct, it is basically the same set up that was used as far back as the 50's.

Re: 69 Overdrive pics
That's fine CG. Don't make a special trip, just when you are there next. Thanks again for sharing the reference pics. I hope to have mine in by next weekend.

Re: 69 Overdrive pics
I went back out and took a couple of pics, but they didnt really turn out. Im not sure what happened. Getting my tubby stomach under one of these trucks without it being up on ramps makes it difficult to get a decent pic.
But to answer your question. The clamp bolts to the the same hole the solenoid cover bolts to. Does that make sense to you? It sort of bends around and goes under. Here is a pic I tried to make look better.

Re: 69 Overdrive pics
CG, That pic probably make no sense to anyone else on here, but it is exactly what I was looking for. I can see how it attaches to the bottom solenoid bolt now.
Talk about a contest...throw that pic up and ask everyone to take a shot at identifying it. LOL Thanks again for the pics.
