I have built my own box for my 2 10" subs. It has a connecting port between the 2 subs.. Do i need to cut holes in the sides, so that the sound can escape or is better to leave it sealed.?

Depends on the type of sub's you bought. If they are designed for ported boxes then you need to calculate the correct port diameter. If they are sealed type then they need to be completely sealed, individually.

How can i tell if they are ported type or sealed type??

They are 10" Xplod's

There should be a port sheet with each sub. It will list the idea cubic feet size of the enclosure.
I'm not 100% sure but I believe most sony subs were ported.
Check the box they came in or search the model number at sony's website.

if you use a little sealant/cualk around the corners of the wood, it will seal it better than without and sound a lot better.

yeah, seal all wood seams and works best if you use a sticky backed foam around teh outside of the sub to seal the edge better too

ive built em for friends all the time and ive always used 5/8 particle board and seall all seems with liquid nail ive always built sealed boxes not ported and have had good luck im gonna build one for my truck when i get it on the road....hope this info helps

Great advice. I built my first box out of plywood and it delam'd in less than a year. I also did not seal the edges. This members on this board are really helpful.

yeah, I thought of reminding about using MDF after I already posted. when I get a cab I am plannin on making a box for two 12s where the tank goes that fits rather tight and run some 94 olds Cutlass supreme coupe seats retro fit a console, possible the cutlass console or maybe a camaro console or build one too.. biggest thing is find the magic number for your cubicfeet inside the enclosure and get the bastard sealed good

im going to do the same with my 72 when I get to the body I have two JL 10's in my jeep that im going to build a box and put beind the seat I like the idea of the cutlass seats.

Interesting. I removed the tank and bought an amp/8inch combo mounted on custom brackets and put pioneer 6x9 3 ways into the corners. I have 1988? Cutlass supreme buckets and they fit nice. Havent figured out how to mount the driver seat electric mechs yet. Presently have a simple big van console sold by Wolf industries.

I got a 93 cutlass supreme and I got a truckdeck off a cutlass in th bone yard with a complete interior, so I talked to junk man into $150 and etake whatever outta the inside I want
