Mousetraps

It appears we have a mouse hiding out somewhere in our kitchen. He's no ordinary mouse - I've set a bunch of traps. He's escaped from two glue traps. There was a large amount of fur on the traps, but no mouse. Today my wife told me she heard one of the snap traps go off, and she turned just in time to see the mouse wriggling out of the trap. I think Jerry is in our house.

So what types of traps have you found to be successful?

Re: Mousetraps

If a mouse escapes from a standard snap trap you either have a weak trap spring or you have a Mr Rat instead. Been there.

My wife said she wanted to get a cat. I told her I would get a snake big enough to take care of the mice and the cat.

Re: Mousetraps

On the old school spring type mouse traps I file the catch just a bit so its like a hair trigger. File it enough so 5 out of 10 times as you set it down on the floor it springs. Also make a "funnel" along the wall so the mouse has to go over the trap. I use pieces of 2x4.

Re: Mousetraps

I used glue traps for a couple of years---my thoughts---they are horrible. I tried the 5 gal bucket thing. Yeah no bueno. Went back to the tried and true 100 year old snap trap with p-nut butter bait, knocks 'em dead day and night. Mice travel along the walls and such for placement

Re: Mousetraps

I've gotten three in the snap traps in the last 24 hours. They seem attracted to the ones I baited with a mixture of hazelnut spread and sunflower seeds.

Doesn't that hurt your tongue?

Sorry, I couldn't help myself. But I like those cups too!

Truckster, your mice are real connoisseurs. Hazelnuts!? I'd be licking the traps, too!
