1970 C30 Longhorn advice

Hi Guys

I'm new to the forum and live in Ontario Canada and just came across an old girl that I just had to have.

After a few days of play and some tinker I got it running and all seems well. With 53000km on the clock and all mostly original and a PTO I was thinking about restoration and finding a box.

I then measured the wheelbase and realized that this was 133"

Are boxes rare for a longhorn truck? or should I find clean one and graft in a section to make up the length. Hard to find boxes here in Ontario where it rusts all year long.

Any ideas? Know of any boxes that I could have a truck pick up and ship to Ontario?

It may not have been a longhorn. It could have been a 9ft stepside. The Vin might tell you.

It could also have been a cab & chassis. Again,the model number will tell. Oh,welcome to the board! Are you saying the truck has a KPH speedo/odo? That's pretty cool if it does.

Tims right on the cab/chassis. My wrecker is 133 inch wheelbase and was sold as a cab/chassis off the lot. Possibly your truck was a wrecker too! (could have been anything though)

By the supports in place on the frame now I'd say at least the most recent bed on there wasn't a pickup box. The bedsides aren't reproduced and they will take some wide open eyes to find. But,beds come up from time to time on the parts board...and go fast. We have some High Octane vendors who may come upon one to part in the future. Your best bet will be to get a subscription and post a WTB in the parts board. Then,when a bed comes up people will think of seeing your search.

My 67 has dual wheels listed on the SPID.

I also recently bought a 1-Ton Dually, mine's a 157" wheelbase. You've made a nice buy, I think!

There is a sweet Longhorn box in the 67-72 parts area by a member in Ca. It is priced right too. I'd put it on there and not look back. Nice find!

I think your right about it being a wrecker truck. The supports on the frame are definately not stock. I really just want to turn the beast into a nice work vehicle that I'll actually use. The truck has the original split rims and tires and I have a set of dually wheels with it as well also split rim. I would need the hub adapters for the front to make it happen.

I'm on the fence with regards to the driveline... I might drop a Duramax into it and have some laughs.

Either way I'm ready to pull the trigger on a box and get this ball rolling.

I'll start posting the canabilization as I get into it.

This truck has been here before. A lot of unanswered questions as well. Still like to know what this truck really is. The cab and door trim ('68 down) don't match the "C/30" badged fenders. It was verified as a former tow truck but the model or VIN numbers were never provided.

I could definitely help you with a bed....but distance might be a deal breaker for ya...or make a fun summer vacation out of the bed pick up...

Didn't catch the year thing before. You have a hand brake in the cab so the cab is very likely a 1967 or 1968 cab.

The handbrake in the cab is only screwed to the column mount and it had a cable that ran back to a brake that was mounted somewhere in the PTO vacinity.(cable cut) I'll remove the PTO eventually unless I think I could use it as a bed mounted margarita maker at some point.

The parking brake is in the factory foot mount off to the left.

The VIN is CE3491853194

I've a great lead on a box that I hope to have in my mitties very soon.

Thanks, The VIN comes back as a Chevrolet V8, 30 series, pickup, 1969, built in Oshawa Canada. But without the model number it still can be a Longhorn fleetside or a 9' stepside. These would be either CE31034 or CE31004

I'm going with the fleetside wood floor. I like to haul stuff around and carry large loads.

Remeber that truck. It was on CL forever, as a whole truck, then an engineless truck, then parts to order. Here is what it started at. But for close to that price you can get the whole thing. Just real awkward to ship.
