VIN decifering>
Anyone know how to tell the original color of a truck from the VIN? I have 3 layers of different color paint and I would like to know the original color..

Re: VIN decifering>
Color wasn't part of the VIN. I think on 63's there was a tag that specified those options. Someone with more knowledge will chime in.

Re: VIN decifering>
the paint code is located on the driver side kick panel tag.let the board know what it is and someone will chime in and tell you what color it was originally.

Re: VIN decifering>
If that's not there, check the inside of the glovebox as well.

Re: VIN decifering>
inside of the glovebox only works for 1966 trucks as the 60-65's did not have the option list attached to the glovebox.

Re: VIN decifering>
try looking under something that might have been painted over/taped off on one of the newer paint jobs...

Re: VIN decifering>
Later tags, or perhaps those for Chevrolet may have more information on them, but my 1960 GMC data plate has no reference to original color:

Re: VIN decifering>
The tag shown on the post above I have found in the driver's foot well but is has been painted over. Had my son read the faintly visible #'s...has the following:
RPO Z62RM RPO 526A I think the original color was red. I see red under the dash and even behind the tag. Can anyone confirm by these # what the interior and exterior were. I found most of the build sheet under the seat but it appears the seat was from a 65' and nothing matches up to my truck. |
