I finally got gas for the Lincoln Promig 135. I started playing around with it and the welds look 100% better. At first they didn't improve much, but then I realized I was using the wrong tip diffuser thing. I changed that out and now the welds look like smooth snakes, not really a roll of coins though.I did a butt weld on a couple of scrap pieces and I think it looks good, but I would like to see your welds to make sure mine looks close. So can y'all show me some good Mig welds with gas before grinding smooth? I appreciate it!!

What tip diffuser thing? I can't weld worth crap no matter what I do, but I keep trying. If I knew what it was maybe I could change mine too. Probably wouldn't help my skills.

take a roll of dimes and fold them over and that is what my welds look like.

with mig it doesnt look like a roll of coins most of the time unles you weld with short bursts its like half a sec on the spot move a little and zap again half a second
a continuous weld looks just like that a continuous weld if its the same bead and it has penetration all the way through the metal youre doing a good job
the famous coins are more a tig weld thing where you can add filler rod and vary youre output

Here are a couple shots of the welds on my crossmember section. I didn't spend a lot of time cause no one is gonna see it anyhow. And, a pic of digger just for good measure. Bet there's some good welds on that sucker!

the roll of coin weld isnt just for tig, but with the gas mig or flexcore mig my welds look like a roll of coins how much like it does vary and it also varies on the aplication its doesnt always HAVE to be a roll of coins as long as you have good penetration its good i personaly think the roll of coins looks cool so i do it alot but its not needed

Here is the only few I got done before I left to pick up my little one from school:

The one on the left is one with gas, but the wrong diffuser thing. I changed it and got the weld on the right.

THis is an up close of the weld on the right:

Here is the backside of the one on the right side (the one I think is okay). THe weld doesn't look like it goes all the way through, but it almst does..

I know I need more practice, but am I on the right track with the one on the right? How do I get the weld to go a little deeper on that one? I am at the max voltage. Do I just slow the feed and stay on spot a little longer?
Thanks for the advice.
Also, what should my gas pressure be at? I've got it set at 15 psi right now, is that right?

Gas pressure should be at about 5-7 lbs too much gas pressure will pull oxygen into the puddle and cause porosity.
Looks to me that you are a little hot and not enough wire feed??? too much spatter. this can also be controlled by arc length (wire stickout from the contact tip) too much you'll get spatter. I've always set my welders by the sound. I'll set my heat to the material thickness then match my wire speed for the sound I'm looking for. It helps to have been welding for a living for 18 yrs.
If you're doing spray transfer it should hiss, if you're doing short arc it should buzz
The way I usually start setting my welder is say my welding heat setting is 5
I'll set my wire feed at 60

Also if you really want nice clean welds take a second w/ agrinder and clean the surface you're going to weld (take the scale off) just make it shiny no gouging just a quick swipe.

If you've any more questions feel free to post I'd be happy to help,that goes for anyone (I'm not an expert but I did sleep at a Holiday Inn Express) I've become a desk jockey and truly miss being in the shop. I've built everything from food processing equip, to cell towers,buildings and lots of custom aggregate processing equip (huge stuff) and lots of stuff in between.
