Talking 16" 6 lug Yeah!

Finally found a set of 16" 6 lug they came with the tires, were they worth a 100 dollars. I thought so, they are hard to find.

Hey Lou, I've got a set of these too, are your wheels 5" wide as well?

Re: 16" 6 lug Yeah!

not sure of the rim width. 5" seems narrow. Is there a way to tell from the tire size?

Re: 16" 6 lug Yeah!

those look great, and nice find.

anyone know what year/models those particular wheels were offered on? Not exactly common...

also, curious if they fit over a disk brake upgrade - being 6 lug, they were clearly for pre-71 half ton trucks, so wondering if the extra 1" diameter helped make up for the taper on the backside of the pre-71 rims where the caliper/wheel interference normally occurs during a disk upgrade?

Here's an old thread about these wheels:

http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=350240

I pm'd back and forth with a member that said they clear discs with no issues.

Thanks for the link to the old post. The remark they are a "Staple" in that link(post #3) is puzzling. They are not easy to find. The photo of my 16" 6 lug is the '62 thru '70 version ( 4 rectangular vent holes ) and won't clear disc brakes. There is also the '71 thru '80's 4x4 16" 6 lug version ( 4 triangular vent holes) which will clear disc brakes. Takes quite of bit of leg work to find these as well.

I don't suppose you have a side-by-side comparison do you? This is something I've been trying to figure out for quite some time, but I haven't been able to find any wheel to try. Is it safe to assume that the 71 up 16 inch wheels have 4 nubs versus 3 nubs?

Re: 16" 6 lug Yeah!

thx guys - good info. still confused as to whether or not they clear disks... will follow along. Just a note - am pretty sure the 71-80ish 4x4 6 luggers are 15" - and, yes, they clear disks (if those are the ones you're talkin about factorystock - OR, was there ALSO a 16" 6 lug K10 wheel available I'm not familiar with?)

Thanks again for the great info and link.

Re: 16" 6 lug Yeah!

The ones I just bought and posted came off a 1984 Chevy 4x4 and they will clear the disk brake calibers.

Hmm... that's interesting. The set of five I got a couple years ago look exactly like yours and they came off a 69 GMC. They also have the rectangular holes like yours vs. the triangular ones. I need to go put one of them on one of my K10's and see if it fits

I can't tell from the picture. Are there 3 or 4 nubs/bumps or on your wheels for hubcaps? If there are 3, they will all be the same size. If there are 4, there will be 2 bigger ones and 2 smaller ones.
