Should I Save This Truck?
Here is a truck that is a freebie for me. Of course my wife thinks I am crazy but I just want this truck. It is owned by a family member back in Mo. that is willing to give it to me. It was running when it was parked but dont know if it will start now. Is it worth the gas to haul this truck back to AZ? With the pics attached does the cab look ok by the drip rail? I am new to body work and would like to give some of this a try. I am going to ask for more pics to be sent of the door sils, engine compartment, and glove box sticker for options. Please tell me if I am nust like the rest of these women in the house think. I just love my 72 now and want more. Thanks.

Re: Should I Save This Truck?
If I listened to my wife I'd have a Kia.
For God's sake it's free ...Take it , you know you want it. You want to learn bodywork... well here you go, and yes it may cost a couple of bucks, but have you priced a new truck?? they are expensive, when you're done you'll have learned something valuable and have a nice truck to boot. NEVER LISTEN TO WOMEN !!!

Re: Should I Save This Truck?
your right Paul. I have two daughters and a wife and they even brought in a female puppy. It is nice to escape to the shop to work in the evenings. I would like to get one of my daughters to get interested in this truck and drive it in two years. I have a 30k mile 350 in my 72 that I would like to move over to this truck because I got the ok to keep my bonus this year and I will be buying a 383 stroker to drop in my truck. wo hooooo

Re: Should I Save This Truck?
I'm with Paul on this one. Paul seems to be very intelligent.
1. It's free! 2. Don't listien to women! Of course you could always leave it for someone else to nab while you go buy you a Kia or one of the Scion boxes. Just kidding. JKR

Re: Should I Save This Truck?
If I was in Arizona I sure wouldn't be bringing back a truck from Missouri. For the price of transport I would think you could easily buy a truck in the same or better condition down there. It's not really a free truck unless you live there in Missouri. I would guess that even if you came and trailered it home you are probably looking at $500- $800 . Also without knowing what it looks like underneath it's hard to say what you really have there. The pass side boxside is in pretty bad shape as is the pass fender. If it has family value and you want to keep it as grandpa's truck kind of thing maybe. Otherwise maybe Ebay it for $200-$800 and keep the funds to buy one closer. Sorry to be the only one so far to be on other side of fence but just looking at this logically. I know how midwest trucks rust and would be suprised to find it to not be alot of patch panel work. I would find one in equal condition down there and then ask wife which she thinks is the better option.

Re: Should I Save This Truck?
This is what I do|:::::: tell wife you will be busy on the truck and drink less beer!( like heck!) Also convince her you can haul stuff to help her set up a garden in it (like heck!) All of your friends think it is a good idea and if you don't get it someone else will and it will cost us more later to find one since they are getting more valuable by the minute and then buy her flowers and wine the evening of the next Barret Jackson and convince her that everyone is in to restoring and look at what they are worth when finished. Maybe get your mother in law to back ya up (like heck!!!!!!!!!!!!!)

Re: Should I Save This Truck?
Take it! I would certainly be welcome in my driveway.
Just tell the wife you'll stop spending money on non essentials. When you get it home start spending money on non essentials.

Re: Should I Save This Truck?
Go get it. Even if you decide to part it out later, the trip would be an adventure of it's own. I once towed a 63 Malibu from a junk yard in Arkansas back to MN. The trip was filled with memories. Not all the memories are good ones, but I'll never forget it.

Re: Should I Save This Truck?
You get my vote - I'd keep it. Even if you just do it to resell it or part it out (lots of rust there). Any respectable body man could work that front clip into something usable.

Re: Should I Save This Truck?
Thanks for all the replies. I am trying to set a split with a board member who is coming out to CA to pickup a truck and thought it might be worth the gas one way out here. Who knows. It is located in Republic Mo.

Re: Should I Save This Truck?
Republic is right on the West side of Springfield. I would take it for the adventure of going and getting it. You have family back there, I assume, so you can kill 2 birds with one stone. Get the truck and pay a visit all at the same time. If the pick up was free and you did not have any family to visit, then I would leave it where it sat. The pick ups up here see a lot of salt and calcium in the winter. Down in that neck of the woods it ain't too bad about the salt. Just don't get anything free from Iowa.
