Finally got some wheels!
Before
AFter OKAY before you laugh at me they are gonna become silver with beauty rings and center caps. Also gonna get tires after I do my 2/4 ECE drop to see what size I want compared to what is on there. So what do ya think? Did I upgrade? oh and BTW I traded my old set straight across for these. Last edited by davebloomer; 03-28-2010 at 07:12 PM. |

Re: Finally got some wheels!
The rallies will sure look better in the end. Yes we traded tires too. both sets were equally junk.
I'm sure the alloys were worth more but both parties were happy with the trade so I think we both got a good deal. I'm doing a 2/4 drop because it takes a lot more work and cash on a 68 to do a 3/5. Because of the front drums. You can't just swap spindles or I would go 3/5. AND I love my drum brakes... wouldn't wanna give em up. 125 for everything is a great price. I'm probably gonna have about 100 wrapped up in just the wheels not including the tires. Last edited by davebloomer; 03-28-2010 at 07:23 PM. |

Re: Finally got some wheels!
i was afraid you got ripped on the tires. but over all good deal.. .not much of a market for those old rims anyways.
get 3 inch drop springs im running 3/5 on a cheap as set up. still got drums up front chopped the front springs for a 3 inch drop and got a 5 inch drop kit rear from ece.. goes down the road pretty nice. just gotta watch the camber with springs. edit... 2/4 is gonna seem jacked up honestly idk if you like the low look but i mean here is a pic of my lwb 3/5

Re: Finally got some wheels!
Yeah those old alloys probably couldn't sell for 200 bucks.. very mid-late 90's I can't seem to find a 5 inch drop on ECE.. only 2/4 and 4/6. Do you know of any other companies that are respectable for lowering kits on these trucks?
What kind of bike do you ride? I used to play around on an Fit S3 aitken. what do you mean 2/4 will look jacked up? it's stock right now and I don't mind it to bad. It has brand new factory height springs. Last edited by davebloomer; 03-28-2010 at 07:47 PM. |

Re: Finally got some wheels!
yeah everything I look for says go with ECE. seems like they have a stronghold on the market.
I like the bike. love the satin/raw. Man I hated to give up riding. I wasn't any good. I only rode for like 2 years then I had to quit because of the whole marriage/getting a real job thing. But I absolutely loved it. I had a very nice park about 1 hour from my house that luckily i had the means to ride about 1 or 2 times a weeks. It is a park that oklahoma city and matt hoffman designed and build together. very nice. 14 foot bowls lol. Im in one of the Road fools several times.. just standing around watching the pros at one of their stops.. My wife is hot so steve crandall and catfish were sure to get us on camera several times.. they even interview here lol Last edited by davebloomer; 03-28-2010 at 08:01 PM. |

Re: Finally got some wheels!
ah i just mean i think my c10 is sitting high
once you start to go lower it.. u want it lower. and a 2/4 isn't much of a drop. i know there really jacked up for a 2wd stock i couldn't wait to lower my truck i mean do what you want for your truck! hell yeah shoulda keep with it. its a lot of fun! i have 2 parks in town plus a lot of street. that bowl is like a 45 min drive. and it gets deep like 14 foot deep section. hoffman designed your park!!! word on that im gonna have to travel to Oklahoma city oh yeah in biking it doesn't matter how good you are.. just as long as you try. you should pick it up again... what road fools. haha we keep editing.. they interviewed your wife lol. crandall waht a goon man i love fbm tho

Re: Finally got some wheels!
I simply had to quit. I have a bad ankle from a tragic deer hunting accident LOL so I was getting sprained ankles all the time. I work on a drilling rig and have to wear steel toed boots and walk up and down lots of stairs. Big fat swollen ankles don't fit in boots very well.
How much did you end up cutting off the front coil? how much welding is required on the rear drop kit? |

Re: Finally got some wheels!
i edited my post above yours haha
i got a bad ankle right now its in a cast... well check out my build thread at the bottom of this page is where i chopped the springs http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...=355750&page=2 just cut one coil off to achieve the drop. its a cheap starter i guess. there are lots of threads on it. and the install on taht rear drop is also in my build threadd no welding required at all. u do need to grind out 4 rivets tho.

Re: Finally got some wheels!
It will definitely look better when you get them painted silver with a drop. Definitely an improvement over the previous alloys.

Re: Finally got some wheels!
I personally don't know why you want to keep drum brakes, but.....anyway. The 2/4 drop would look nice if you run a taller tire combo. You could run 255/70/15's all around or a 255/70(R), 235/70(F) combo. You could also run 275/60/15's all around, but they won't fill the wheel wells as good. Once painted, the rallies will definetely be an improvement.

Re: Finally got some wheels!
Well I got a temporary paint job on my rallies. I couldn't stand em red so i spray painted em silver for the time being. My paint man is working 2-10 shifts at the prison so I'll have to get em painted on a weekend that he is free. I got the front end down now just gotta get my 5 in drop kit for the rear ordered in a few days. Like the rake? When I stand by the front end it just feels like a different truck lol used to it being so tall.
I had a 70 longbed with disk brakes up front and I didn't care for them. These brakes stop straight and I never really drive the truck over about 50 mph so I don't see the point of a pricy upgrade. Last edited by davebloomer; 03-31-2010 at 07:16 PM. |

Re: Finally got some wheels!
disc was best upgrade I ever had..70'was it original because 70 woulddve had drum drum
but it looks nuts low in front and way up in back! looks lots better with silver rallys vs red

How did you lower the front? Who did you order your 5" rear kit from?

Re: Finally got some wheels!
I lowered the front by cutting exactly 1 coil. Very simple job. I ordered the 5" kit from ECE.

Re: Finally got some wheels!
Not sure what painting them will cost, but look into powder coating, I saw a set at a poder coating place and they looked great.
