Vendors question
This coming winter I want to pull the motor from my truck and replace all seals and gaskets in the engine and the tranny. It's a C-20 327 with a TH400.
Is there a board supporting vendor that I can order all I need? I am trying to get everything together now so I can just get to it as soon as the driving season is over. I expect this is valve cover gaskets, timing chain cover gasket and seal, Rear main seal, new oil pan and gasket, input shaft, transmission pan gasket and filter, maybe speedo seal? I am really not even sure what all parts I should be replacing are so if we have a vendor that specializes in this that would be great so I can get advice too. I looked through the vendor section but that is hard to find a specific vendor for this kind of thing. It is really general maintenance.

Re: Vendors question
Are thinking of rebuilding the engine at the same time ?
If rebuilding i would look at comp cams valve seal cutting tool to be anle to use newer style valve seals Does the engine burn oil ? Have you done a compression check ? I can not answer site vendors Gmc Pauls are frequent answering questions I use Rock auto and summit for felpro gasket sets i avoid the cork ones they dry out and are more prone to crushing from over tightining |

Re: Vendors question
Does not burn oil any oil a tall. Runs great. Only 48K miles on it.
Just want to stop the leaks! I have not done a compression test but can certainly do that but it seems tight and solid, no issues at all with it. Was just hoping to single source all the gaskets and seals that I need. I do need a new oil pan and if I am going to do it all will probably replace the water pump

Re: Vendors question
Nice low mileage engine
Sad to say in Canada the nice old fella behind the counters are mostly gone now too Years back i got a truck from New Mexico drove it back to Canada 3 quarts to a tank of gas once I got to buddy's shop in Edmonton found the previous owner rolled the valve cover seals into the head area and broke and drilled to holes in the timing cover got it down to one quart to a tank of gas |

Re: Vendors question
Engine Gasket Set $29.99
https://www.speedwaymotors.com/Speed...yABEgL4ivD_BwE Watch the rear main seals...offset them when installing...there are several threads on this. TH400 Gasket and External Seal Kit $43.66 https://www.classictransmissionsolut...free-shipping/ Change the modulator while you are it Red Stripe Modulator $31.88 https://www.classictransmissionsolut...ose-and-oring/ When you order your sump pan, make sure the dipstick tube is on the correct side for your engine. There are also two different front pan depths where the front rubber seal goes between timing cover and sump....make sure you get same depth replacement. Reach out if you need anything further...

Re: Vendors question
At 48K you will need to replace the plastic timing gear with a new timing set. If any teeth are missing from the cam gear you will have to replace the oil pump and pick up tube. The old valve seals will be toast and need replacing. You should check the heat riser that runs under the carb. in the intake. They like to carbon up and close off. New intake seals. While the valve springs are off check the spring height. Clean out the oil return holes in the heads. Replace fuel pump while the engine is out cheap and easy. If harmonic balancer shows any wear in the seal area you will need a sleeve to repair it. Check the flex plate for cracks and the ring gear for worn teeth.

Re: Vendors question
I bought the gasket set for mine from eBay. I used the complete felpro set. I also sprung for the felpro 1 piece silicone oil pan gasket. I was all in at Somewhere between $50-75.

Re: Vendors question
I very seldom use eBAy, I guess I just have a hard time building trust.
This is great information in this thread, thank you all! I was hoping we had a vendor that sells something like the eBAY kits but if not, that is ok and I will get them from other sources. Thanks again, this site is very helpful to new guys |
